Resolved: Finite energy resources should only be used

Unread postby Ayoob_Reloaded » Mon 27 Dec 2004, 17:45:56

as a bridge to using 100% renewable energy resources. We're over the cliff now. We should not extend a bridge over the cliff even further. I think it's cruel to do so, especially with regards to children.

We should only be using nuclear to construct solar panel arrays, windmills, etc.

Agree?

Nuclear is finite too (peak uranium).

Sure, but we all know the damage done by Godzilla, you know the harmless little lizard tranformed into the emormous hulking terror by evil radiation. Or how about the three-eyed fish on the Simpsons?

Nope, not agreed.

Think of it as providing a challenging learning environment for the youth of tomorrow. That's better, isn't it?

The World Oil Supply is Infinite: I Know That Because I Beli

Earth scientists have been making the case for years that the present level of human activity is not sustainable. We’re rapidly depleting resources, degrading ecosystems, altering the atmosphere, etc. What earth scientists are saying is generally not covered by the mainstream media, or is sugar coated, because the mainstream media is an outlet for the corporate perspective on the world. As an example, in 2017 global crude oil + condensate production (typically used to define oil-this does not include natural gas liquids, biofuels, or other hydrocarbon liquids) was about 30 billion barrels. Cumulative world oil production at the end of 2017 was approximately 1.36 trillion barrels (1,360 billion barrels). Since WWII, approximately 95% of the cumulative total global oil production has been produced (See Figure 1 by Jean Laherrere-the top brown line represents global oil production). Figure 1 Jean Laherrere, an international petroleum

Of note, Blanchard has been trying hard as an ASPO member to avoid discussing his prior works for obvious reasons...they got caught not just their pants down on their oil knowledge, but couldn't even get the direction right, let alone the volumes. Anyway, couldn't find him listed at the school he once taught at, and I was wondering if he represents ASPO in his poor understanding of basic resource economic issues nowadays. Anyone know anything about this non industry, since discredited academic who doesn't know much about oil, economics or geology?
