Good day, from Pheba, from the farm:
I was preoccupied in January of 1977. I was a new mother. My daughter was just 7 months old. She was my entire universe.
I was not paying any attention to the world around me.
Skip to 2007. A few weeks ago I purchased an out of print book at a local book fair. I paid $1.00 for "The Blizzard" by Robert Bahr.
I began reading the book last night, and could not put it down until I finished it.
On January 28, 1977 a blizzard struck Buffalo, New York.
The blizzard was part of a strange and freakish weather pattern that was spreading across the entire eastern half of the U.S.
I read where my state, Missouri, experienced a record breaking 23.9 inches of snow that January.
I asked my husband if he remembered that year. (he remembers everything!).
He said that he did remember it, and it was awful. Like I said, I was preoccupied.
I highly reccomend this book. The best way to predict the future is to study the past.
How will we survive another Blizzard, or any other disaster that demands intensive use of energy.
During this blizzard natural gas had to be rationed, and businesses came to a standstill, not just because of the snow, but because they were denied natural gas to run their business.
The book is fact filled, well researched, and a great study of human behavior under stress.
I highly reccomend seeking it out, possibly on Bookfinder.com or E-Bay.
If anyone has read the book, or is planning on reading it, I would love to hear your point of view on the book.
A great read.
Pheba, from the farm.
