$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Aaron', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'W')hat's this nonsense of 'moving to the southern hemisphere'? Like, how is it any safer there? The knives are coming out wherever you are.

but aside from that, how come Matt's site is worth a lot of money but this one isn't?

$2,450,420
wow, that's a lot of money. umm, your point is? is that the worth of this site?

Nuclear winter.

I have my doubts, more powerful modelling has challenged the hypothesis. I saw a paper some years back about the potential for "large ground fires" (no, the author did not mean forests) to launch enough smoke and fine ash to block sunlight, it concluded that no, not even close.

The fallout is bad enough though.

Its that time again, empty beer bottles heavy laden with half smoked cigarettes, passed out people with new and terrible hair cuts, condiments and condoms getting to know each other better, the law has been here 3 times because of the noise ordinance, our parents are pissed because we have wrecked the place, we suddenly realize that we are broke and can not repeat this spectacular performance without cleaning up, taking out the trash, getting a hair cut and a job.

Damnit this always happens.

Hmmm side party note - if money be the problem dont be too proud to pass around the plate as I feel much better about donating to this cause over just about all others.
In total over two years my small donations have been $100 to ecovillage charity and $20 to this website and okay I bought all the PO, climate change vids and books plus a couple from Matts store as well.

Shanny - please do not encourage them as sooner or later all the "white people" will be rushing to relocate in south america...hmmm no wait on second thought... Yeah Nuclear winter bucko's!! better run!

Nah. Can't be. JD was no fun. NEOPO is like that proverbial barrel of monkeys.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Twilight', 'T')he fallout is bad enough though.

I realize it's just a hypothesis, and let's hope it never gets tested. I'm aware of the conflicting models. Have you seen this, though?

2006 study on consequences of a regional nuclear war (Wikipedia)

Nope, not that one. I must say, it takes the discussion into whole new territory, saying a limited nuclear exchange would cause significant cooling effects. Atmospheric dust could be a problem, volcanic eruptions have indeed had measurable impacts on the climate, but a decade of nuclear winters from just 50 small nukes, that's a bit of a stretch. I agree though, I wouldn't like any of it put to the test, just having that many cities obliterated would be bad enough even if the result is negative.

As for a strategic nuclear exchange, I doubt the nuclear winter controversy is even important there, the sheer destruction and subsequent deaths from fallout make the issue academic.

This site's worth over $2.4 million? I doubt if I'd pay over $1.5 million for it because it's so slow.

However, have you considered an IPO and maybe a NASDAQ listing?

You could be CEO and pay yourself a nice fat salary worrying no longer about the hassles of hustling donations.

I should have gone into economics. Maybe next time. :)

Page 3. Clear as can be. $2.4 million smackeroos.

I bet there are days, however, that Aaron would let it go for only a few hundred grand. 8O

Sorry about the slowness.

We have upgraded the site 4-5 times in the last 4 years to accommodate the traffic... the recent CNN exposure has really perked up the numbers & of course the gas price at the pumps as well.

And I'm an Independent Technology Consultant who makes plenty of money & loves his work.

This issue transcends mere money... so this we do for free.

And we have not accepted donations in a couple years, (although on occasion a like-minded member will send a check to pitch in unsolicited | Thanks!).

Hosting itself isn't too expensive... it's the tech work required which costs the big bucks, and we do that ourselves. :)

This formula allows us to host a completely unbiased web forum, free of financial interest.

And I think it works.

Bullshit just doesn't last long around here.

Being an Internet guy, I have tried all the major energy forums. But this place has taught me more than all the other "bitch-session" forums combined.

Sincere thanks to all of you for making that happen.

Depletion probably does mean some pretty terrible things... but it won't be because we didn't try.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.
