$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cynicalheretic', 'H')ow does one get a job working in the oil field anymore and have a shot at that 80,000.00 per year? Hell I will sign up today, I have never been afraid of hard work.

Well depends on what you want to go into. Oil field services are much easier to get on with than a major production company. Of course if you had the money to go to T2 school for a few days (think it cost about $1500) then a contract prodution company will prolly hire you on the spot.
Frank's Casing . Now those boys make some money.
Imagine this. You get a call out for a job leaving the heliport at say 8am to be on location but the heliport is five hours away from the shop. You clock in at the shop go to the heliport, go on location, wait around for a day or two eatting and sleeping until drilling is ready for you to go do your thing. Then work non stop 24 to 48 hours sometimes more until your done. Leave location fly in drive back to the shop and then clock out. You've been on the clock non stop the whole time. Sometimes those boys go straight from on heliport to another.
Halliburton start off as a sample catcher then work your way up to mud logger or get sent to school (company pays) and become a completion fluid tech then move to specialist. the specialist make about 120 a year.theres more than just haliburton theres BJ services and slumberger and osca
Or just go to a drilling company and get hired on as a roustabout (low man on the totem pole on drilling rigs) they start at about 12 to 14 dollars an hour. 84 hour min a week.everything over 40 overtime. work 2 weeks then off 2 weeks.
Just look online for newspaper want adds around south Louisiana
Lafayette, Houma, Morgan city, New Orleans
you should be able to find something. Companies are hiring like mad down here.
Now of course it took me about 8 years to get to 80k but starting salaries should be around 35 to 40 maybe a little more
I just mentioned 80 to say that college is not a must to be half ass successful. I know a lot of college grads that don't make the money I do because of what they went to school for isn't in demand. Now petro eng. BIG BUCKS
Also if your a welder with your own rig you can make about 65 to 70 an hour ....offshore with company equipment around 30 I believe
Nothing is more dangerous than a man with nothing left to lose but has everything left to gain.

I know people that have made connections at oilfieldworkers.com.

If you were Canadian, the typical answer is to get a van that you can sleep in (since housing is non-existent) and drive to Fort McMurray. You will get work.

In the US, it's a little harder since much of the drilling is offshore, so they have to train more first. Even though you'll be mostly doing scrape-and-paint 12 hours a day, you'll need to know some fire brigade and man overboard procedures. More like $40-50k, really. 80k is if you have some electrical, welding, or pipefitting experience.

Some of the damndest jobs pay well, really.

Look at www.caltrain.org that's right workin' on the railroad, some of the scuttiest jobs with them still start out at like $20 an hour.

I've met many people who are essentially electronics techs but are working with stuff like elevators or medical stuff, etc and make the kind of pay one associates with being a degreed engineer. Heck I make what a degreed engineer makes, I'm just not happy with the ratio of work to pay and security. Which is why I myself feel I can live better down close to the poverty line but with a lot less worries.

some people go to college to learn you know...

its not always about the money. I know furthering my education never has been.

I'll pay triple what is now to go to a good college.

you can be as poor as ever but there is one thing people can never take away from you, and thats knowledge.

Tell that to my a good friend of mine who ended up a retard after the police smashed in his head after they found 1 fucking joint on him.

Thanks for the info about the oil job stuff. if I can't find a job after I graduate, that maybe the direction I go for awhile.

Yes, I agree with that use for college. But for many in the Empire, college is just plain out of reach. Education is in general. If you're rich enough to go to college for fun, go for it! But for most of us that's not an option.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hings changed.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Baldwin', ' ') Yep, college presidents went mad with power, embarking on a building frenzy of stadiums and glutted research departments. Then the bill went up.

More costs distributed among more students, this is mostly a wash.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')nd the majority of you have zero work ethic.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Baldwin', 'G')od bless if your part of the country is different, but here in New York, the jobs staffed 20 years ago by the 16-23 age group of workers is now done by immigrants who are probably working for less.

Care to tell me why this is, in your words, before I tee off on you?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Baldwin', 'A')s for myself, this summer I plan to crack out the bagpipes and work a few funerals every month for $150-$200 a pop cash. Then that money is going to get turned into silver/gold coins (a decent portion). That goes back to most kids not having anything but their bare hands to work with.

OK so far as I see, the two things that appeal to you (or your friend)to make cash for college are 1) be a musician 2) scam the parents with a army recruiter.

Back the potato fields or bread line with you....
