When You Own a Hammer...

...every problem looks like a nail.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')Given the efficiency and environmental benefits of emerging fuel cell technology, Boeing wants to be on the forefront of developing and applying it to aerospace products," said Francisco Escarti, BR&TE managing director. "The Fuel Cell Demonstrator Airplane project is an important step in that direction."

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') fuel cell is an electrochemical device that converts hydrogen directly into electricity and heat without combustion. Fuel cells are emission-free and quieter than hydrocarbon fuel-powered engines. They save fuel and are cleaner for the environment.

They save fuel ???? 8O :!: I suppose if you compare the volume of hydrogen needed (without calculating the energy needed to produce it) to the volume of aviation fuel normally used this statement could be true.
We should teach our children the 4-Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rejoice.

I doubt it. Compared by weight on the other hand... Seriously though, does anyone have a ballpark estimation as to how hydrogen->fuel cell->electricity->motion compares to hydrogen->internal combustion engine->motion, efficiency-wise?
