Death In America

Again, this was lifted from another forum I visit, but is worthy of reading by every American. It's likely that each and everyone of us will face this at some point in our lives, to some degree or other.
Take a few minutes and put aside our collective wailing and knashing of teeth about PO, and think about providing some help to those folks who deserve it.
Please, no one be so insensitive as to comment that when PO comes they'll be dead anyway. Amid the ashes and dust of this collapsing Empire, we can still provide some level of dignity even if only for a few months, hours, minutes... :(

I'd rather park my wheelchair in the woods and depend on the wolves to feed me rather than go through that hell. Nursing homes can't pay their nurses much so the quality of care suffers.

Yuck!

That's one of the reasons why I want to bite the dust at around 55 years old (give or take about 5 years.) Kind of like this society, I'll die about 15 years after my peak. None of that old fart bullshit.

Unless, the peak happens soon, in which case, I probably won't make it to 35.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('FourOfSwords', ' ')and think about providing some help to those folks who deserve it.

Deserve what ? Nursing homes are what this society has come up with to deal with 'useless' old people, just like they have come up with the idea of day care to deal with 'useless' children - and I use the term 'useless' in the fashionable corporate sense - as in - you're of no 'use' to us unless you can work and buy Expletive deleted. from us.

I've watched several of my relatives go this way and it is nothing but ugly. And can someone tell me what exactly is THE POINT of taking someone who has led a fairly decent life and letting them rot in some Obscenity deleted. until they finally croak ?

And to a large extent - I think old people are to blame for their own situation - you know deep down your life is essentially over - yet you insist on hanging on. Ultimately, it's all about me me me just like every other aspect of this screwed up society.

Me - if I get to the point - and I still have my mind in one piece - I'm going to throw a big party - get drunk off my ass - say goodbye to everyone - then drive my wheelchair out in the woods, call 911 on the cell and Suicide comment deleted.
That's how you show your family you really love them (that's not a joke BTW).

Oh I'm not too sure about that. I rather like the way an older friend of mine about 80 checked out. Sleeping like a little baby, he never know what happened, unlike the three passengers in his car who all passed away in an unspeakable panic while screaming their brains out.

Parents in the US kick their kids out at age 18 to sink or swim, sometimes after a few years of charging 'em fuckin' RENT, often kids are not allowed to keep any money they make so forget about the kid going to college, and then they turn around and wonder why the kids can hardly wait to stick 'em in one of these homes.

Which may have worked in times past when a kid could put themselves through college...but not today.

Most kids start hankering for a job or some way to make some $ in their puberty years ..... if the kid if allowed to save what they make, and use it as a college fund, they can still put themselves through quite well. It's just that it's become very rare. Thinking about the future is actively discouraged, thinking only ahead to the next cheeseburger is encouraged.

Actually, I was hoping for a more interesting transition.

Preferably in a hail of gunfire as I go down with a hot machine gun in my grip, and a curse on my lips.

Not a bad way to go. Especially if I take a few down with me. 8)

Interesting that the only common uses of "put," as in "put someone (somewhere)," aside from "put someone in a nursing home," is "put someone to death." "Putting" is what is done with objects, not with people. Put the book back on the shelf, put the food in the fridge, etc. Once we use the word "put" with respect to another human being, we are effectively consigning them to the status of an object that lacks free will or whose free will is of no consequence.

As for me, if it comes to the point where my mind is going, I'll take my exit via an overdose of morphine or similar medication.

There are however, sane & humane alternatives to the horrific hellholes and the chosen exits. Some of the intentional communities of the 1960s and 70s have reformulated themselves as retirement communities. They hire nurses and in some cases doctors, and they just keep living where they've lived all their lives until the natural end comes.

gg3 - that's part of the general trend I've noticed where language used for things is not use for people. Anyone heard the song "I need a lover that won't drive me crazy"? Of course your all have, I think it still gets plenty of airtime in the Empire. Not "who", but "that". Might as well be talking about a Sybian, a device that could only have come into being in two places: One of Usay and Quday's torture palaces, or in the US empire.

Listen carefully to spoken American and you'll have a lot of this, words and terms used for things, are now used for people very often.
