Friends, Romans, PO'ers, lend me your ear...

Waxing philosophical this evening, came across some quotes from the ancient Greeks and Romans, some over 2,000 years old. They could have been penned for our generation...

Laws are silent in times of war.
~ Cicero

Written laws are like spider webs: they catch
it is true, the weak and poor, but would be torn
in pieces by the rich and powerful.
~ Anacharis

We are just statistics, born to consume resources.
~ Horace [ my favorite of late ]

Sometimes even to live is an act of courage.
~ Seneca

The good of the people is the chief law.
~ Cicero

Time the devourer of everything.
~ Ovid

Where there's life, there's hope
~ Terence

Lets hope there's a good life after PO.
Cheers.
Alex.

Ovid was quite the jokester. Perhaps that was why he was banished to Turkey. He made fun of the gods.

Caligula, who's real name was Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (August 31, 12 – January 24, 41 AD), was oft to use the quote, yes you are correct.

The original quote is from Lucius Accicus (170-86 BC).

I'm afraid poor Caligula was not up to coining his own phrases and used Mr. Accicus' verse for himself.

On a side note one of favorite books was I Claudius. Great read from the source and a great mini-series as well.
