People don't notice until it's time to fill up the car, or the heating oil tank. It's a problem, but only in a limited way for most people. Wait until they can't buy oil at any price. Then they'll get it. I don't think that's as far-fetched as it sounds. The gas stations don't make all that much off of gas sales. If every oil truck is hijacked, the profit goes out of heating oil. It's already happening. Small stations have quit selling gas. I'd say that most people are not aware of peak oil, but they are intensely aware of the price of oil, and it's effect on them.
