I will be 21 shortly....I am going to have enough to stay quite drunk for a month...then I will move on.

Home is where I will roam...

It's pointless planning for a post-oil world

because you will be long dead before the world enters a post-oil world.

Oil will increase in price but the world would still use oil for the next 60 years.

It is indeed true that oil is not going to run out.

But if the price goes so high that one can't afford it, it's no different than not having it

And if oil gets scarce or "rationed by price," then someone still won't have it, which is in effect the same as "running out."

If you can't get gasoline, does it matter that the reason is " oil has run out " or "it 's being rationed by price?"

I've limited car trips to three times/ week. I do most of my school work at home.

I maintain a 15 year old car that gets 33 mpg.

I don't go out anymore. Cook, eat, entertain at HOME.

I plan to putter around my paid-off house (the one with the no longer functional heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical systems) sleeping in a sleeping bag during the winter and tending the vegetable garden that was once my lawn in the summer. If I need to go somewhere near I'll walk. If I have to go somewhere farther I will ride my bike or use whatever public transit is available. If I need to move things I will use my collection of converted kiddie trailers on my bikes.
I will interact a lot more with my neighbors who will no longer be hidden behind the windshields of their SUV's or in front of the giant screens in their climate controlled McFortresses of Isolation.

Property tax?

I'm sure it will be much less of a challenge than trying to pay a mortgage that is 3x what you could sell for. What do they pay the help at soup kitchens? How much will they be paying onion pickers?

I can't wait to stay home instead of commuting. I'm so sick of commuting.

I'm looking forward to seeing arrogance punished, too.

An early "church father" in Roman era Christianity, Tertullian, wrote something along the lines of, "Just wait when we are in heaven and we get to watch all the pagans tortured in hell, how awesome that's going to be."

Many peakers, myself included, are looking forward to a terminal schadenfreude. That's going to be the big payoff, the bitter victory. I can't wait to throw it in the face of the cornucopian fools.

i think alot of people dream about peak oil happening so they dont have to go to commute.

I would be alot happier person if I didnt have to commute. If i could just work at home. and earn enough to sustain myself and a family.

reality sucks thoug doesnt it....

I hope to get on a high speed TGV-style electric train, travel at 500 km/hr past the nuclear power plants that provide its electricity, and get off at a car-free downtown LA where small free bicycles and electric vehicles are waiting to be borrowed outside the train station. I will bike to Santa Monica and go surfing and then in the evening go to a street fair and street party and dance the night away.
