Big Brother Gets Bolder

Check out how DHS has revived (and expanded) their cyber-snooping.

Dad gum 'puters are going to be the end of us.

Everything you ever post online will stay alive forever in some form or another. Personally I wish I had never gotten a computer or ever used one.

Does this mean they know how much time I spend at humungous hangers.com ? I'm sure they monitor alot of the sites I visit (progressive politics) looking for people that threaten violence ,insurrection and or revolution but for your average run of the mill dissident I can't imagine they have the manpower to actively start a file. Just think , a majority of the country could be considered an enemy of the state right now if dissatisfaction with the status quo and disgust with the Bush administration is part of your selection criteria. So many enemies, so little time.

I wonder what the DHS will do when they figure out that each month I buy a fresh cardboard cut-out of W and another tube of K-Y Jelly.

About a year ago, (or was it 2?) I tried a little test to show that we have nothing to fear but fear itself: I posted a thread with a whole bunch of terrorist stuff in bold print, capital letters: BIN LADEN TNT SUPERBOWL TERRORISTS etc. I'm sure some thought I was pushing my luck. No DHS guys in black suits ever showed up. I know that some think I work for DHS, but that's pure nonsense and has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they never bothered me. 8)

That's why I'm always careful to not say anything that could remotely be construed as illegal. If there are those out there that are angry enough to take action I pray they're not stupid enough to talk about it on the internet.

As long as you're not from the wrong background it's all about treading carefully. For example, if I were to mention some encryption or anonymity tools on here I'd probably get red flagged by a bot looking out for trouble. You can start worrying when they ban strong encryption, which is on the to-do list of some high up officials.

The people with their hands on the keyboards really do not care about our/your politics. Most of them are also oldschool patriots who believe in the Constitution & Bill of Rights, and many of those in turn are highly displeased with the Admin's attitude about such things. Twelve of them went public last year over the domestic surveillance thing. Even one going public would be headline news, but twelve at once is absolutely unheard-of, and it's just scratching the surface of the dissent that's brewing in the ranks over there.

Remember, this is the Admin that not only screwed CIA by leaking Plame, but also screwed NSA by leaking to one of Chalabi's guys (who in turn leaked to the Iranians) that the US had broken the top-level Iranian diplomatic & military crypto. A very large number of people at NSA were bloody pissed about that one and not about to forget it any time soon.

You can bet that the Feds moniter this site more than most esp. when they have been up all night and need a few laughs.

What gets me, is the overall scope of possibilities.

That 'good customer club card' at the grocery store, is tied to your plastic CC, which is linked to your bank, which is connected to your cell phone, etc.

We just may as well go and line up for the chip implants that have our ID, all pertinent info, banking links, and of course a GPS locator.

No, the thing to do is resist like hell.

I'll tell you (and the folks who monitor this board) one thing: If it ever comes to mandatory implanted chips, particularly if they are GPS-trackable, that is one of my threshold events for supporting a violent uprising.

(While we're on the subject, just for the sake of reassuring those who are watching us here, my other threshold events are: Suspension of the Constitution. Suspension of elections. Mass internments of US citizens. Shutdown of the judiciary. Suspension of Congress. The reason mandatory GPS-trackable implants make the list is because, instead of putting citizens into internment, this would be putting the internment into the citizens. The common denominator is, these are conditions in which all avenues of legal change or recourse have been shut down, or in which there is mass physical coersion used against the citizens. Seems to me we're (still) far from any of that. Good. Let's keep it that way. Election 2006 proved that the system still works. I can hardly wait for Election '08.)

The thing we all should be doing right now is bugging every single person we know to be sure they are registered to vote. Then next year, making darn sure each and every one of them does vote. Last year, We the People averted a potentially enormous disaster. We can do it again. The way to make it work is to make sure there is such a huge tidal wave on election day that no amount of cheating is sufficient to overcome it. Every single vote counts. It's not just a right, it's a duty.

Many people already are GPS trackable if they own certain types of cell phones or use some types of high-end electronics that contain GPS. Let's not forget Onstar.
