DOD is powering down

Unread postby SchroedingersCat » Mon 30 Oct 2006, 02:05:55

A casual read of the latest defense spending bill shows just how seriously the US military is taking peak oil. Aside from the reduction of civil rights bit (which other threads are covering) there are several mentions of alternative energy, efficiency, etc. Here's a link to the bill:

Defense Authorization Act

Some items:
SEC. 354. REPORT ON ACTIONS TO REDUCE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE CONSUMPTION OF PETROLEUM-BASED FUEL.
SEC. 375. ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN WEAPONS PLATFORMS.
SEC. 2403. ENERGY CONSERVATION PROJECTS.
SEC. 2806. INCLUSION OF MILITARY TRANSPORTATION AND SUPPORT SYSTEMS IN ENERGY SAVINGS PROGRAM.
SEC. 2829. USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY TO MEET ELECTRICITY NEEDS.
-This last one calls for 25% of electricity to come from renewables by 2025.

Just a guess, but if there is any question remaining about the US government knowing about peak oil, this should answer it.

If you haven't read the army report on energy, you should.

Actions speak, these actions speak volumes.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

I wonder if this is responsible for the latest spike in SUV and light truck sales.

The Naval Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) pushes updates to computer when they feel like, mostly in the middle of the night to minimize disruption. We are asked to restart our stations before leaving but to leave them powered on. Recently, the DOD has asked for all equipment to be turned off when not in use. So now NMCI is working a program that will automatically turn on our PCs when NMCI wants to push an update in the middle of the night.

Just remember, when you want to know what is really happening here in America, look to a foreign source. It's sad but the media is bought and paid for here. Pick a country that is fairly neutral to us and you will find out the truth.
