The second I opened this thread, for a fraction of a second I thought the A and B where in the same color square; I thought that was the optical illusion...

huh?
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

well, ok they are in the same color square as you pointed out, so the first impression was in this case the best; I thought for a split second both a and b were in a white square until my eyes (or brain) adjusted.

uhm, bas, A is on a "black square" and B is on a "white square" but it's really weird because it turns out to be an optical illusion and they really are the same shade of gray, but the brains says, "no, A is on a black square and B is on a white square" but really it's because B is in the shade and it's re3ally much darker than the brain realizes since it "assumes" it's a "white square" and thus "misinterprets" the situation. really very cool how the brain can be tricked into thinking what is really a "white square" is actually just as dark as the "black square!"

actually, it's a pretty good metaphor for Peak Oil, don't you think? the way human brains are so liable to thinking according to preconceptions and not see the reality of the situation, even to the point of having the truth pointed out and still the mind says, "no, I know what I see!" "oh, they've been saying we'll run low on oil since the early 1900s and it hasn't happened yet, blah blah blah."

*sigh* I know that PMS! I'm just saying that may brain in the first instance said that both A an B were in a white square (i think i focused on the white in the shade square first)But that very same first second I "realized that A was in a black square and B in a white square; then I read the explanation and realized that my very first impression was sort of right, that a and b are in the same colour square.

So there, now I explained it three times and that should be enough (optical illusions distorting communication, who would have thought?)

One of the greatest illusions occurred back in 2001.

Three skyscrapers collapsed, but the media created the illusion that there were actually only two.

Try it. Ask your friends what caused the third building to collapse. They'll say "Huh? What third building?"

yeah, I suspect it can happen that someone by chance, when opening this thread and focusing on the a and sees the b in peripherial vision would think, for a split second that they are both in black squares.

LOL. I was half-joking when I posted this. But I actually tried this. Incredibly, three of my friends were not aware of WTC7!!

I typically avoid the 9/11 subject when skirting serious issues with people I know, simply because I know they'll form the uninformed opinion that I'm a nut.

I was hanging out with a couple friends a few weeks back, and they directly asked me what I thought about 9/11 (since I have brought up PO and GW etc with them).

On other topics like PO I always make it clear that I'm not 100% convinced of anything but that X looks like a reasonable theory/speculation/whatever, so I responded with the theme of 'well, I have questions about it, I don't know what happened but some stuff doesn't jive'.

then I asked

Me: "Have either of you heard of WTC7?"

Them: "No"

Me: "See, how can you consider yourself educated on this topic and not even know about that? you aren't even aware that a third tower fell that day, without a plane hitting it, or that it wasn't even mentioned in the 9/11 comission report?"

so, yea I don't doubt for a second your friends didn't know either.
