$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WildRose', 'W')ow. All parents-to-be should read your last post, Heineken, specifically if they're planning to have more than one child.

Right. The 3 1/2 year age difference between Larry and me was particularly unfavorable to me. I was neither close enough in age to compete, nor far enough away in age to be uninteresting to or inappropriate for him as a competitor.

I don't recommend that age gap between children to any parents-to-be, except perhaps if they plan to have more than two children, which changes the dynamic entirely.

(But in today's overburdened world, one child is plenty. Better yet, no children. Another subject, of course.)

Well at a population over 6 1/2 billion and expected to be 10 billion in 25 years, I think people stopping to think before they spit out another mouth to feed is a good idea.

If were lucky some huge geologic event will wipe out 5 billion here in a few years. If not, maybe PO will get them.

Wow. Some interesting and heartfelt stories. Thanks folks.

My childhood was no where near as bad, in fact it was pretty good for the most part. It's my adulthood that sucks, lol. Let's not go there.

I have an older brother, about 3 years older. I had problems with him as a child, but I imagine he had problems with me.

No biggie there.

I had a really hard time coming up with my best accomplishment. In fact I am having a hard time thinking of something worthy. I have accomplished things in my life, and failed at a whole lot more.

Have not met the challenge yet that will give me my best accomplishment, I think.

If you've managed to avoid hurting anyone too badly, been honest and kind, you've accomplished the truly heroic. Somehow, Gampy, I sense by your writing that you're living through somewhat reduced circumstances without a trace of bitterness. That may rank as a greater achievement than conquering Everest.

I panic thinking how my obituary will read. I'm a legend in my own mind, but a complete non-entity in the world of great accomplishments.

I DID develop the theory that tabloid journalism has links to the covert intelligence world, and that the tabloids are used to subvertize certain topics. For example, legitimate ufo stories are bundled with ridiculous ufo nonsense and celebrity sleaze, to discredit the subject thoroughly. Disreputable framing. The theory has been published and well recieved.

That is my contribution to mankind, earthling.

I totally missed one of my greatest accomplishments.... I rarely think about it anymore... After 21 years of smoking, I finally succeeded in quitting 5 years ago. It was the hardest thing I think I've ever done and took a good two years of constant trying to do. But I did it.

btw, I've noticed a theme in some of the posts here about breaking the cycle of bad things handed down from the past. Parents not doing the right thing, etc. I recall thinking the exact same thing when I was a young parent. Looks like a lot of people felt the same thing. Truth is that only time will tell. I have a nagging feeling that we were the product of an easy energy time trying to right the wrongs of the past. The sad truth may be that we were only reacting to a change of circumstances that is about to reverse itself.

OK, lets see. I'm not sure if these are my greatest personal accomplishments, but anyway its some of the stuff that comes to mind:

Becoming the first person from a blue collar, poverty family to attend college. And graduate college. And receive a Masters degree. On my own dime. And later in life.

Serving 4 years in the US Navy, receiving several Letters of Commendation and Appreciation and decorations for serving in Gulf War I. And getting an honorable discharge at the end despite the fact that I was hell on wheels ;)

Deciding to take my career in a direction that would (ostensibly) help people rather than just make shitloads of money for myself and corporations; hence, my MPA instead of MBA.

Creating a number of assistance programs for the poor during my tenure as city manager/executive director of different municipalities. Keeping property taxes and user fees low to reduce financial burden on my fellow citizens.

Raising 2 good daughters and marrying a good woman.

Rescuing a number of dogs from the streets or the pound.

Having the strength to constantly and consistently re-examine myself in order to seek the path of beauty and righteousness.

Bringing lots of joy to myself and others through my musical abilities.

That's it, for now :)
After fueling up their cars, Twyman says they bowed their heads and asked God for cheaper gas. There was no immediate answer, but he says other motorists joined in and the service station owner didn't run them off.

- Raising 4 good children and staying with just the one wonderful wife!

- Learning German and then working in Bavaria for some years

- Surviving a few nasty explosions

- Always managing to sustain a good income over the years

- Walking away from a 135 mph car crash (my own fault)

- Working in a hi tech startup right from scratch until it had 475 staff and a $billion+ turnover 4 years later ... an amazing ride!

- Getting a perfect score with a 9mm Browning HP the very first time I fired on a pistol range

- Escaping corporate-land & retraining to start my own business 1/2 mile from home in the countryside

- Staring down a huge corporation in a corruption incident ... and they blinked first!

- Standing in front of a huge truck during a political protest ... and thankfully he stopped in time. (The police got it on video 'tho :x )

- Never getting interested in soccer

- Surviving as a witness in a famous US commercial courtcase

- Getting a special "Award For Valour" on an office paintball day out!
Technology will save us!

I accomplished a lot in the last week.

Began writing my own screenplay, 14 pages in. Never did this before and I always wanted to.

Discovered what I believe to be an arrowhead making tool used by the Nipmuc Indians. This artifact is pretty amazing. It has a placement notch for all 5 fingers.

Discovered 4 stargates used by the Nipmuc Indians. One of which is completely amazing. They kept time like most Indian ancestors by tracking the sun with rocks that face due west in a particular angular pattern. My avatar is an example of one found in monument valley a.k.a. valley of the gods as done by the Navajo. One of the stargates had a rock shelter, meaning a rather large rock had cracked in two and a roof was fashioned out of other rocks. Pretty amazing.

This week has been slow, hence, I am posting.

An inflatable dart board,

An ejector seat for a helicopter,

Thanks cynic,

Your avatar reminds me of a story a wise old man once told me.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') young bull and an old bull stood at the top of a hill and looked down upon a field of young cows grazing in the field below.

“ Let’s run down there and have our way with one of those young heifers,” suggested the young bull.

"Let’s walk down there and have our way with them all,” replied the old bull.
