But, doesn't the state of the dollar have everything to do with the state of oil, and the conflicts it engenders?

That's what I learned in "Petrodollar Warfare," anyway.

So then he might write something like:

I believe the decision to dump dollars is tied to depletion economics because the current value of the dollar is tied to the price of crude oil, and as the price of crude increases in value when it becomes more scarce this will create demand for the dollar to pay for oil, and therefore it makes sense to dump dollars before they increase in value. Homer-nomics. Doh! ; - )
