My expert analysis

The "voracious" US use of oil is based on two factors, first the lack of development of viable alternative energy sources that preserves the monopolies, and second the fact that somewhere between 60-80% (reports in 85 and projections to 2000) of all US oil use (and it is at least 60% of global oil use by 4% of the world's population) is military use. This means that we are fighting wars to preserve access to oil needed to fight the wars. That's a "national interest" I guess.

This is why 911 needed to happen. The US needed a 'pearl harbor type event' as Cheney said in his 2000 speech. 911 was the event they needed to gain the approval by the US people. Iran is next on the neo-cons agenda. Instead of powering down and conserving oil / energy, and risk destroying the US economy, the neo-cons are fighting for the oil they need to keep the hegemony going.

Until they reach point of diminishing returns and hit a negative EROEI...

Strange things happen when we as a globe slide down Olduvai Gorge, namely the very tactics that worked well and got the Empire UP will prove to be fatal and damning on the way down.

This is why America is doomed from the inside out. It's still living the dream of the past, like Ford and GM, the Neocons just can't and won't change. Me thinks China and Russia like it stay that way....

I'm not sure I understand. You mean that of all the oil the US uses, on any given day, 60-80% is burned by the military? All the figures I've ever read gave the usage at around 2%.

Could you link to the speech you're referring to? I couldn't find it in a quick search.

Yeah, I think I screwed something up. I was doing some research, and I can't find the place where I coppied that from. It doesn't sound right. Sorry if I read wrong. My bad. But the points I posted are still accurate.
