It just got an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, by the way.

I knocked off work early Friday and saw it. Despite some reviews saying it's slow, I thought it made for a good doomer flick.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('threadbear', '
')It's not a movie best viewed at the theatre is it? Would it be just as good on video?

It's one of the few movies I was glad to have seen in the theater. I've already seen it twice! The first time left me feeling enchanted...

Defintiely see this movie in the theatre. The cinematography is excellent.

I really liked Michael Caine in this. The political side of this is almost comical in it's brutality and it's slam against current administrations. Somehow I doubt we would get quite that bad, but then again I do see how it could be possible.

For those of us who sense that something like this may go down in the NTDF it is very depressing. It's depressing to me because it's rather plausible.

The art friend's son FREAKED me out. The idea that a post peak world could look like this drew me into this flick and after seeing it I almost wish I hadn't. I think we are headed for something just like one experiences in this movie.

The scene where the aircraft scream overhead the boat on their way to do close air support against a detention camp is very surreal and bizarre.

Without spoiling anything I left the theatre with a very somber feeling. The end isn't bad, just leaves you kind of hanging there in your misery.

Wow. Just got back from seeing this in the theater, and I'm glad I caught it on the big screen. The plot was more straightforward than I thought it would be (though refreshingly unpretentious). The acting was definitely solid.

What really floored me was the sound direction, the cinematography, and most of all the mise en scene. This is, without a doubt, the most perfect realization on film of how I expect things to look in the very near future: think 1984 combined with the Warsaw Ghetto. You know a film does a great job when you can feel, taste, and smell the oppression, grime, and despair. Absolutely brilliant.

pstarr, right on about the comparison to Blade Runner and 12 Monkeys. While those are actually my two favorite movies of all time, this definitely gets close.

The only downer was an annoying group of teenagers giggling and talking behind me that made me wish the human race really would become sterile and stay that way. :)

I went and saw it in the theater. Depressing is one word that really describes what i saw. It almost left a sick feeling in my stomach just knowing that a world like is portrayed could become reality.

Did you guys notice the blood on the lens towards the end of the movie. Awesome effect.

Have seen it several times. The amount of detail is amazing. The one-take shots are incredible. The billboard graffiti outside the train is priceless, "last one to die, please turn out the lights".

Definitely one of the 10 best movies I've seen in my life. Left me feeling icky when I left the theatre. The movie definitely did its job. I got the impression that one of its thrusts is to revive the activist spirit of the 1960's (Lord knows we need to.)

The sunrise at 8 am under a heavy layer of smog was artful. Also all the little rickshaw's and other "alternative" transportation.

The movie dragged slowly, but I think that is intentional to give the sense that just about everything in the world depicted is out of time. So it was appropriate.

I think, as I can only see these things on TV, that this is how it is in a lot of places on this planet. Bunch of people with guns, shortage of everything including justice. The movie is sobering to watch.

I would be curious what are the ticket sale numbers on this film as it does not look like one that regular John and Mary would go an see, though they should.

If it ranks up there with "Bladerunner" and "12 Monkeys," I gotta see it.

Anyone remember "A Boy and His Dog" with none other than Don Johnson? That is a good TSHTF flick.

Went and saw it last night... I can't believe that more hasn't been mentioned about the cinemetography towards the end... the scene where Theo was dodging bullets looking to retrieve Kee and her baby... it was all one shot.... truly amazing. I can't imagine that they were budgeted for more than two or three takes on that... and they nailed it! Right before we saw the film, our waiter informed us that he'd seen it the night before.. he was still obviously and visibly affected by the eminent possibility of the world we might become.. It's great entertainment to see someone who has just had their world view mixed up like that...

didn't Johnson's little sheep dog procure women for him in exchange for dog food? I liked that movie also.

Yes, "A Boy and His Dog" was a great flick to think about. However at that time that possibility was not on anyones radar including me :-)

Darn! Kids got us a trial sub to netflixs we have not started yet. Was going to go for this weekend and I now see that Children of Men is not out on DVD yet. Shows how far behind we are in movie-going.

Sidenote: was going to buy A Boy and His Dog last month, found it was redone on DVD and lots of copies on eBay, BUT I see that netflixs has it. Maybe we will start our trial sub this weekend. Have to wait for COM to come out on disc. Looking forward to it.

One thing I love about being here in China are all the great bootleg dvd's, usually I can get them soon as the movies hit the theaters back in the good ol US. Guess it's time to hit the dvd sellers on the street and find this movie.
