Hello all,
I just discovered peak oil about 2 months ago...well I just became last year a member of the State Patrol in PA. What implications might this play out in my job where we are near 100% dependant on cars? I use to think this job was one of the MOST secure...but I am questioning it...Any thoughts?
Thanks, State Trooper

Well, the government will make sure the police have adequate fuel supplies (Strategic Petroleum Reserve, synthetic fuels, etc.) The question is: will there be much civilian highway traffic to justify as many State Troopers as there are right now? I think that a local police job might be better, you might still have a patrol car but you would intervene in non-car-related incidents which will be happening, Peak Oil or not.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MarkL', 'V')ery long term, you'll be helping to round up us poor slobs for the farming camps(maybe on horseback?). No worries.
2 words. Vest. Helmet.
Wear'm if you come for me. Preferably one of those nice UN Blue helmets, they make such excellent targets. :-D

I just want to take a moment to thank-you for taking that sort of job. Most people here probably look poorly upon Military or Police types, but I for one am greatful for the kinds of sacrefices you guys make. I mean, who in their right mind would want to deal with the ass-hats of society every damn day of their life, and that is what you guys do for us. You deal with the ass-hats, the beligerant drunks, and violent mongoloids who make this world a shithole to live in so that the rest of us don't have too. Thanks. Really.

Back to the point. What should you expect? Go rent Mad Max, that's what to expect. And as far as job security goes, you've got it. They might have you riding horses in 30 years, but you guys will still be around.

There will be plenty of oil for government use for the rest of all our lives. Peak oil does not mean no oil. Only question I have is why would we need highway patrol if nobody is driving cars?
