Ground swell of "Deadheads" in US Government

Unread postby rockdoc123 » Fri 05 Jan 2007, 11:42:59

Just read that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Nevada US Senator Harry Reid are huge Grateful Dead fans. No doubt given the average age of the Senate there are a bunch more. Too bad they only pay lip service to the lyrics:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')lues For Allah - Grateful Dead, 1975

Arabian wind, The needle's eye is thin, The ships of state sail on mirage,
And drown in sand, Out in no-man's land where Allah does command.

What good is spilling blood? It will not grow a thing;
Taste eternity the swords sing: Blues of Allah In 'sh'Allah.

They lie where they fall, There's nothing more to say,
The desert stars are bright tonight lets meet as friends,
The Flower of Islam, The Fruit of Abraham.

The thousand stories have come round to one again,
Arabian night, Our Gods pursue their fight,
What fatal flowers of darkness bloom from seeds of light.

Bird of paradise fly in white sky, Blues for Allah In 'sh'Allah,
Let's see with our heart, These things our eyes have seen,
And know the truth must still lie somewhere in between.

Under eternity, under eternity, under eternity blue,
Bird of paradise fly in white sky, Blues for Allah In 'sh'Allah.

Yeah "peace and love" but please do whatever it takes to keep the oil flowing.

I have a hard time believing they are true dead heads.
So how many hits of LSD has Nancy taken? as I personally do not know a "deadhead" who has never "fed their head" 8)
It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

Although not a 'Dead' fan (Pink Floyd blows them away) I believe it is a vast improvement over the congessmen they are replacing, who were all most likely 'country' fans or 'xtian rock'... :puke til I die:

I will believe that when I see it.
The democrats were similarly convinced that we needed these people to end "the war" yet there goes 20000 more into the fray.

i remember al and tipper gore attending grateful dead shows right before garcia died. makes sense that pelosi and reid would have familiarity given their location and age.

are they tye dye wearing, rope smokin, stinky hippie dead heads ? prolly not.

pelosi freaks me out on gun control. other than that, she's a thumb in the eye of the ruling dynasty and i like that. i would prolly vote for al gore if he ran in 2008. obama too.

and i despise the democrats.

Oh, the Democrats are getting hip to the Second Amendment too. They are starting to pick up a lot of libertarian influences, some from people who have grown disgusted with the Republicans, some from internally within the Democratic party. The phrase "gun control" is starting to be as frowned-upon among Democrats as "evolution" is frowned-upon among Republicans. Go to www.dailykos.com and do searches of relevant terms and you will find that the vast majority, absolutely overwhelming, are in favor of strong Second Amendment protections.

As for the Dead, one doesn't have to be an acid head to appreciate their music. Even a casual listen to a few of their best pieces demonstrates that they were incredibly talented by all measures of musical talent. Composition, songwriting, performance, the tonal qualities of their instruments and vocals, the production quality of their recordings (microphones matter more than sheer number of tracks), and the degree of conscious intent they brought to all of it, were simply amazing.

I only saw them live once (without any herbal or other mind-alterants) and I was as impressed with them live as on their albums.

As for politicians, it shouldn't surprise us that they listen to the popular music of their eras and attend live performances, any more than it should surprise us if they go to sports events or other cultural festivals of the times.

this makes me hopeful.

i may have to move however.

lots of antigun money coming into maryland. whatever repugnicans we had were killed here in november. hangun control inc has targeted us as the beta state for their autoloader ban. as in all autoloading firearms. yes, you heard right. autoloading duck guns, pistols and rifles. the sheeple here do not understand how many sportsman posess autoloaders so the hue and cry is going to be intense. this will undoubtably be a public relations disaster for the gun grabbers, but it has a good chance to pass in md.

pennsyltucky here I come !

Meh. I wouldn't go so far as that.

I believe their analysts just finally managed to convince them "gun-control" was a no-win issue.

People who support it are already voting Democrat. It wins no new votes. It only served to wipe vast swaths of middle-American populists off their donor lists.

Here in rural Texas I'm hearing the hillbillies admit that perhaps the Democrats are that bad. Inconceivable in 2002.

I attribute this to the Dems wise move to STFU on the gun thing, and focusing on "eat-the--rich" populism. In the recession of 2007 this will play even greater appeal to the NASCAR dads.

There are more closet yellow-dog Democrats in Dixie than most people think.
