Peak oil and the inevitable energy shortfalls are going to be DEVISIVE not Unifying forces. It is far more likely to expect CA, the US and Mexico to devolve into feuding regional countries and fiefdoms.

All three countries have (or have had) seperatist movements politically or militarily over their histories. What makes anyone think this wont occur when times get tough? If you want an idea what north america would or could disintegrate into, check out Joel Garreau's Nine Nations of North America. It's a bit dated now but still lays out north america as it effectively functions today. Move a few of Joels borders around to reflect 25 years of migration patterns and you'll get a viable set of successor states to the tired old countries of North America.

Will the Amero be a product of the federal reserve system? What will make it different from the dollar? If it replaces the dollar, what will keep the amero from crashing?

Are we suppsed to believe it will be managed responsibly? yeah right, I won't be buying any ameros! And if my employer only offered ameros I will quickly exchange them for something of real value.

I would only consider buying a currency backed by a basket of precious metals and printed by an actual government, not the private federal reserve (or any other privately owned reserve).

Will our debts be converted to Ameros? How would that be possible? All the debt contracts stipulate US dollars and I would sue in court and win if my lenders demanded Ameros instead of the worthless dollars already agreed upon. If courts ceased the enforcement of contracts across the board than anarchy would surely follow and nobodies debts would amount to anything.

I just don't see how we could switch to Ameros.

I notice the most outspoken opponent of this is Jerome Corsi -- remember him, of abiotic oil fame (and the Unfit for Command hatchet)? The others are mostly conservative groups fearful of immigration and labor unions, infowars.com being the big exception. I think this is a very bad idea, but not so much sinister as it is wasteful and very unrealistic. Stupid and sad that they're taking folks' farms away so they can dump a bunch of useless concrete over good land and continue the tower of cards. I guess the goal is to create a continent-long strip mall.
