Developments in Anbar

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Tue 28 Nov 2006, 20:48:21

The UN had extended the mandate for the pacification of Iraq for another year. The Washington Times report of the dire situation in Anbar is being represented as a distortion, by some, of the original Marine's Devlin Report. There is a coalition of tribes there fighting against Al Qaeda and with the US and the Baghdad regime. http://billroggio.com/archives/2006/09/ ... ttleli.php
It aint over until it's over, folks. And it isn't over by a long shot.

On the highest level "failure" was the goal yet of course people on the lower levels will succeed at their tasks upon occassion

It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

you may be right, but I don't think so. Why would they seek failure? The goal was to end the Saddam nightmare and bring democracy, ostensibly, to Iraq. The thought was that a democratic regime in the ME would be a good thing. And let's face it, it was the neocon idea from the start. They are ever more out of the loop nowadays. But this may only be a temporary result of the election. One of the things I try to do is not let PO condition my every thought about what is going on. Things are in flux. Obviously, we aren't doing anything about Darfur or Zimbabwe because they have no strategic importance. So let's face another fact: it is hard to sift through the info and truly know anything. One can only try. That's all I'm trying to do, and I believe you are trying to do the same.
