I know nothing of the american legal systems but if his accomplice comes forward and says :
" I was there this night and this is what happened...", can't he be retried on "new facts"?

Why the continuing obsession with this case? I'd say it's because he was so universally loved and admired in this country. He was an icon. He gave everybody warm and fuzzy feelings. He was making over a million bucks a year just on the strength of his charisma and personality. I met him a couple of times (once in the parking lot of a convenience store in Westwood). His aura was so strong it was damned near visible. The sun seemed to be shining brighter on him.

Count me as one of his legions of fans. I bought into the myth, big time, like everybody else. Little did we know what was lurking under that bright facade.

He's a fallen angel. Stories like that always have a special fascination for us.

The guy must have an extremely narcissistic personality. With this book, he is flaunting the fact that he got away with these murders.

It's hard to imagine what effect his writing this book will have on his children. You'd think he'd at least have the decency to spare them this pain.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smallpoxgirl', 'H')e got off on murder, but couldn't they prosecute him for some other related crime?

In 1997, a civil jury in Santa Monica found Simpson liable for the wrongful death of Ron & Nicole. The suit was brought by the Goldman and Brown families.

Simpson was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages.

To date, Simpson has used his lawyers to avoid paying any of the judgment.

No. As soon as the jury has been polled (if requested) and the not-guilty verdict is filed, you are forever not guilty of that crime in that jurisdiction no matter what hypothetical circumstances you can conceive. The only way to get him on this would be on some kind of federal violation (doesn't seem likely) or some related crime that wasn't at issue in the first trial. For example, if they could show he attacked the supposed accomplice, they could try him on that.

It does of course work the other way though. "New facts" can certainly lead to a retrial of a guilty verdict. We bias everything towards the accused out of an abundance of caution.

They scrapped the whole thing:

O.J. Simpson book, TV special canceled

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O').J. Simpson’s book and TV special were canceled Monday, an astonishing end to an imaginary confession that had sickened the public as the very worst kind of tabloid sensation.

“I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project,” said Rupert Murdoch, whose News Corp. owns both Fox Broadcasting and publisher HarperCollins. “We are sorry for any pain that this has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.”

The sad thing is that adequate outrage pressure for cancellation had to come from below, not above.

Rupert Murdock was all for it.

I will never forget the videos of blacks dancing in the streets when Simpson was acquitted. With a straight face they proclaimed his innocence.

I was provided with a good object lesson: Never underestimate the power of tribal loyalty. Never.

Time magazine is usually lame, but this quote from a recent article is the best summation I've seen...

"No survivor of a murdered spouse who is innocent could do anything so grotesque. ...The mere act of engaging in so unimaginably repulsive an exercise is the ultimate proof of Simpson's guilt."

I actually really like the whole Time article. I agree. Grotesque though it be, I think that getting OJ's confession finally out in public would have been important.
