Anyway, I found the following wikipedia quote interesting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battery_electric_vehicle

"In order to use NiMH batteries without violating Chevron's patents, hybrid automobile manufacturers are required to design vehicles which are at least 50% powered by gasoline; otherwise, they are limited to the use of "D" cell-sized NiMH ("small format") batteries."

Limited to "D" sized cells ??!! That is f*cking ludicrous. Another example of bullshit and greed trumping common sense.

I'm in touch with Toecutter. He may come back one of these days.

Consider though, when he speaks here, he speaks with the voice of the archetypal engineer: the can-do attitude, the sense of potential and possibility, confidence in the laws of nature and the ability of humans to understand and build.

What he has to say is "come with me, just a little further, look around the bend, look over the next mountaintop, we really can do this if we try!"

It's not naive optimism, it's confidence in knowing the math and knowing what the math means, and what he, and we, can do, with our brains and our hands.

There are others here; who talk about sun, wind, and uranium, in much the same way.

With people such as they in charge, we could have a world truly fit to live in.

Fellow Americans, think about your vote today. Ask yourself, "does this candidate believe in science?"
