Extortion!

Postby Daculling » Tue 31 Oct 2006, 19:59:54

So I'm sitting here trying to get my doom on and learn how to rope goats when I get a knock at the door. I answer it and there is a group of children there claiming that great harm will come to me or my property unless they are gratified with some sugary token as a good faith endorsement of their their dominance of the neighborhood well being. I questioned the validity of the threat but Spiderman said that he would come back and egg my windows so I gave him some candy. Later Batman demanded the same tribute. I asked him where Robin was and he claimed that he was a short bit behind him and I better pay up to him as well. Then Stephanie from Lazy Town showed up and now I really questioned how she could possibly threaten my being but she claimed she would show me how to bake a cake so I complied again. When is this going to stop? I'm almost out of candy and I don't think they will take dried beans. So if I disappear please pray for me.

Thanks,
Dac

I enjoyed the costumes today at work at a high school. Lots of kids really get into the spirit of the thing. I saw boys dressed as Death, The Grim Reaper, girls dressed as sexy French Maids, a kid with an outlandish horse costume, boys dressed as girls, girls dressed as boys, a Philippino boy dress as a chollo with a plaid shirt, top button buttoned dark glasses hair net and a can of Ice Tea in a brown paper bag to make it look like cervesa, a giant kid dressed as a nun, another dressed as a baby, several pirates and fairy princesses, and a girl dressed as a Geisha Girl. She had a nice pair of legs to put it mildly, but I'm not supposed to notice that.

An SUV just pulled up in front of our house and a bunch of kids from some 'other' neighborhood jumped out and ran up to our door demanding candy.

I gave them what they wanted.

Is there a corporate savory food (chips, salty foods, etc) day like their is a candy one in the USA? Oh wait.. I guess the candy day is a break from the usual everyday savory day.

Best vampire costume award goes to Paul Wolfowitz. He was heard to remark "But I wasn't even wearing a costume!"

Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say 'ni' at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land. Nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress at this period in history.

I don't even need to dress up for Halloween, and I still manage to scare people away sometimes. I think it's because I wear leather and well-worn clothes, have long unkempt hair, and sound like Carl off the movie "Slingblade". I'm frequently asked weather I ride a Harley Davidson. Sadly, the answer is no(maybe in the future).

That picture of me that sometimes shows up on the lefthand side of your browser is not accurate as to how I look these days. It's about 2 years old.

One of the benefits of living out in the middle of nowhere is that there is no neighborhood, hence no neighborhood kids coming by for junk food. My wife and I instead drove 30 miles to the nearest town and had dinner and then went to see "Flags of our Fathers". The theater was jampacked with my wife, myself, and some dude who looked like he was old enough to have been at Iwo Jima himself. They took in a grand total of three $5 senior tickets for the night. The movie was sort of on par with "Saving Private Ryan", in some ways better, and in some ways not as good. I recommend it.

My own father somehow survived the later Okinawa battle so the movie did have emotional meaning to me. Funny that my wife's father landed in Normandy on June 18 and fought until Germany surrendered, and he and my dad told us both very little about that part of their lives. As a kid I can remember that the subject was always changed if the war was brought up. I guess that was his personal Haloween, just tricks and no treats, with his own private set of monsters.
