A Beautiful Movie

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Sun 29 Oct 2006, 23:59:40

"Broken Trail" with Robert Duval. Set in the 1890s in the west. The guys are driving a herd of mustang horses east, they pick up a bunch of Chinese maidens destined for prostitution. Good men and bad men, much pathos and natural beauty. Directed by the great Walter Hill, a swan song perhaps but he's in his 60s. Astonishing, gorgeous and sure to warm the heart. If you want to leave this sordid scene for a few hours, I highly recomend it.

I saw a few months ago, very good flick.

I enjoy a good movie, especially when I can watch it without interruptions. I'll see if I can pick it up.

I like that old-fashion thing where the good guys are good and the bad guys are bad. plus they look the parts, the bad guys being hideous as well as evil. The character Tom was funny looking in a tough way with ears that stick out absurdly but there was a dignity about him. Interesting casting, really. The notion that old time America was a land of both good and bad, but richly alive, is appealing too.

I love "interesting casting" - makes for much better movies a lot of the time, IMO. I'm always intrigued when the actors that are the least obvious for a role are chosen for a movie. They tend to make the character richer, more believable.

I enjoyed the unconditional love the old guy gave the lady who was a prostitute for time. it didnt matter to him. It was here and now. A noble man. His own man. They both wanted companionship and that unconditional love. Excellent movie. TNT has alot of great western movies made for tv. Is it TNT? I cant remember. Robert Duval was great in Open Range. That movie ruled with Kevin Costner. Man how far we are removed from those days.
