Ice Age!

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Sat 14 Oct 2006, 10:35:01

Early October freak storms that dump snow on the North East - that's how it starts. Increased evaporation, shut off of the warm waters to the North Atlantic and the next thing you know: glaciers cover Canada. The British Isles covered with ice. It can happen very fast. At the very least, something tells me the mild winter last year that saved our bacon over Natural Gas prices may not make it's appearance again this year.

Is it cold in Ohio? You may not see it this way, NEO, but having an adversary in an internet forum makes it more interesting. Keep up the good work!

Yes "God needs the Devil to show his goodness" theory.

Works for christians I suppose.

Since we have 10 times more lurkers then we have active members it is easy to believe that most people come here for information more then to hear a debate on said information.

If we debated in a traditional sense I might see more value in certain peoples continued presence yet more often then not we dont debate we flame and it discredits the message and this forum.
I am flamed thus I flame.

The ice age - I read somewhere that during the last ice age the ICE was a mile thick and covered over 3/4 of ohio.

Yes I believe the northern section of the trans atlantic conveyor belt could cease to function and thus throw the northern hemisphere into at a little ice age.

This would squeeze most of us down into the narrowing gap of moderate temperate or tropic zones.
Imagine that.

I know what will happen to most people and I know what happened to my people the last time the great snow fell and did not cease.

"Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying:
Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore"

Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning

Not really a banderas fan yet I could not find any other vid with the same viking mantra/prayer ;-)

I will be working up north all winter perhaps.

Yes.....Bring the snow and ice!!!
Actually if not for a last minute "hold" I would have been driving through that shit yesterday.
No problem - most people from the north have snow driving skills ;-)

ahhhhh ah ahhhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Taking this a step further it seems we could be nearing an ice age anyways and thats based on ice core data going back 600,000 years last I checked.
Perhaps the only thing that has kept us warm has been our use of fossil fuels.
Better start building those nuclear plants and maybe some geothermal plants pilgrims!!! ;)

Ice age or no, there's definitely SOMETHING that's happening - the weather down here the past 5 years has been messed up - getting progressively worse.

It honestly feels like midsummer tonight - and it's still the middle of SPRING!

Congratulations, humans, you've managed to muck up the climate! Way to go!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Raphael', 'W')hat does it imply when the Hopi suggest in their prophecy that the land would become the water and the water becomes land?

I don't put much value on ancient prophecies, put a hundred ancient predictions in a hat, one comes out true, therefore all ancient prophecies are true.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Raphael', '
')Psst … this is why plant, insect and other species are migrating north, right now, as I type this…the wild animals and wild people can sense an impending shift. They are still tuned into the elemental mother earth…the domesticated sheeple and seagulliables are tuned out however because they have tuned into the distractions of a humanity gone mad.
I've spent the last 2 weeks on a peak in the Canadian Rockies watching eagles, hawks, falcons and other birds. They are 99.9% migrating south. EAGLEWATCH

Why must humans look for spiritual solutions to physical problems?
And vice versa?

Ever heard of plate tectonics? Any clue as to how it truly works, where it's been and where it's going?

I really really really want what you're smoking Raph, it would make life so much easier to be completely oblivious to reality and just put one's own spin on it.

And birds migrating? Are you kidding? It's that time of year, Raph!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Raphael', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('basil_hayden', 'W')hy must humans look for spiritual solutions to physical problems?

I can only suggest it is something the shaman saw long ago when he was high. Drugs like ayahuasca allowed the spiritual leaders of the tribe to enter the 'plant world and experience it'. They thus recognize and acknowledge the balance and connections that exist between everything.
The temple preists knowledge can be traced to the shaman...so yes drugs can lead one to a spiritual realm, as researchers have discovered.
You deny that? You need to do some more research before slamming me.
We have a receptor as NEO mentioned for THC in our frontal lobe, however not for tobacco nor alcohol, what would this suggest?

Slamming you? Why not try to stop pussy-footing around at what you think may be a connection and put it forth for us poor souls mired in the physical world!

Drugs cause chemical changes, some of which are enjoyed, but if you care to believe that the Holy One is trying to communicate to you while you're on peyote, I've got news for you - just another misinterpretation in your misinterpreted world that does not need interpreting because it's RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU. Unfortunately, you're trying to make some sense of the future that hasn't happened, but that ultimately will, and in a way that's both predictable and unpredictable.

My THC receptor is there for me to enjoy THC, if I care to. Nothing more, nothing less. It's not my hotline to God, it's a recreational past time. Kind of like your mission to confuddle. Is my pizza receptor there to talk to God too? As far as an alcohol receptor - I don't think the human race could have bred with out it.

Let me explain something to you, the shaman you refer to was in a tight spot. If he didn't come up with something, and soon, his leader was about to cast him to the slighted masses. So he ate some drug-carrrying plant and came up with the first story that he thought would save his ass, kind of like your approach.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Raphael', '

But you are right ... it is all about the physical and spiritual. You may want to delve into alchemy and hermetics which acknowledge mans desire to turn material and spiritual lead into material and spiritual gold.
Enlighten yourself.
Know thyself Basil before taking pot shots.

Again Raph, why waste time with the make believe when REAL is here? Why not make the laws of man = the laws of nature, then we all know the list so we don't feign ignorance.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('basil_hayden', '
')Ever heard of plate tectonics? Any clue as to how it truly works, where it's been and where it's going?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Raphael', '
')I think I mentioned plate tectonics somewhere. Please enlighten me as to how it really works ... you detected something, please be specific ... you want a laurel/ Stop throwing darts. Be specific
Basil ... otherwise you are just another fool sent to distract me...
What do you disagree with and what do you want to discuss?
Simple rules of engagement ... not hit and run ... a common tectontic tactic here on PO.
hEh PMS?

If you have the right to put up a dart board in a public place, surely I have the right to throw darts at it. Agreed? What I detected was pure crap. But you're right, and deserve a finer explanation. Plate tectonics is the Earth's heat engine in motion and has nothing at all to do with the core, except that's the oven that gets plate movement rolling. Mantle plumes convect, plates are dragged away from spreading centers, toward convergent centers, and along transforms. Plumes not associated with a plate edge tend to form hot spots like Hawaii in the middle of the thin Pacific plate. So yes, the West Coast of Canada was at one time the Southern Coast of the North American continent. I'll even go further to say it was a dry, desert mesa environment prior to subduction of the Pacific and Juan de Fuca plates. But crustal sinking? LOL it's a density thing, Jeeves, crust is less dense than mantle, so until we change the densities, we have not a worry. In fact, your best bet for crustal sinking would lie in an ice age not a warm age, where you can pile much ice on a continent and cause subsidence temporarily until the ice melts off.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('basil_hayden', '
')I really really really want what you're smoking Raph, it would make life so much easier to be completely oblivious to reality and just put one's own spin on it.

And birds migrating? Are you kidding? It's that time of year, Raph!
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Raphael', '
')Pardon me, take it up with Keith, to him Eagles and Hawks flying south is rare ... maybe these birds DO NOT migrate ... duh that would be unusual then, wouldn't it...but you can easily research that the killer bees and mosquito borne diseases are moving northward along with plant species. A shift is definitely taking place. You deny things are changing, for the worse it appears, ecologically?

Between now and 2012 I reckon things are going to speed up...

just one delusion among 6 billion.
enjoy it
Your own delusion I mean...

namaste

Raphael

All the geese in my area are flying the same path they have for 20,000 years (guessing, not a zoologist). From the cooling autumnal north to the warmer south. Your delusion stems from the fact that you are looking at things that aren't complete yet from a strictly anthropogenic viewpoint. I can't tell you if the work they did on my car was good until it exceeds its life expectancy. good / Bad, better/worse - two sides of the same coin; I think we can look at the coin, but how can we ultimately say something's good or bad until the end? To me, they just ARE, they're not bad or good. I can't tell you that things are headed for the worse, just that they're changing. What's worse for one group is better for another. What you do depends on what you do to see it. While I do not recall any killer bee stories from 1066 A.D., I'll bet my bottom dollar they existed in South America, would you agree or is it all Intelligent Design? God's punishing us? Because it seems this is where you're headed. And is it that the southern diseases are spreading, or the northern diseases are shrinking?
How shall we look at the issue?

Humans look at physical problems spiritually to bridge a temporary gap in understanding. My observations lead me to believe that this temporary spiritual baloney serves to fog the initial problem, stop pioneers from investigating the physical problems, and promote ideological warfare over something that no one is sure about in the first place. Without the spiritual response, the physical problem gets solved quicker. but it's OK Raph, I understand, we're all mentally ill in some form or another. Maybe while yours is anchored in make-believe, mine is that I'm anchored in reality.

Words to live by...

Taking this out of the haze of metaphysics, during ice ages the sea level is lower and more of the continental shelves are exposed. Up until ca. 18,000 years ago the Persian Gulf was dry land, for instance. The islands of Indonesia were one large mass - there were river systems flowing through what is now covered by sea. When the present interglacial warming period began there were immense floods worldwide, which led to the worldwide stories of innundation, and fables such as the lost continent of Atlantas.
The continent of Atlantis was an island which lay before the great flood in the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean. So great an area of land, that from her western shores those beautiful sailors journeyed to the South and the North Americas with ease, in their ships with painted sails.

Ummm, yeah, sure, that's why side scan radar and magnetometer surveys of the world's oceans have found so many sunken civilizations that we just don't know what to do with them!

Spare me the fiction.

You're obviously too young to know anything about Atlantis. Although I notice HBO occasionally shows Goodfellas.

To the East Africa was a neighbour, across a short strait of sea miles.
The great Egyptian age is but a remnant of The Atlantian culture.
The antediluvian kings colonised the world
All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas
In all legends from all lands were from fair Atlantis.

Knowing her fate, Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the Earth.
On board were the Twelve:
The poet, the physician, the farmer, the scientist,
The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends.
Though Gods they were -
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind
Let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new
Hail Atlantis!
