$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Laughs_Last', 'D')on’t waste time dating people that aren’t right for you.

That's a good philosophy, but it assumes that you know pretty quickly who is and isn't right for you, and not all people can say that quickly.

In my case, I can tell relatively quickly, if I get enough chances to talk to the guy. But that will usually mean several dates. Now, if the guy is desperate, he's likely to assume that if I keep dating him, I must like him, when I may be still trying to figure it out. I think a lot of women have that same problem.

Also, I find that recommendations from other people are almost always wrong. I find it impossible to figure out if somebody will be right from descriptions of other people. That doesn't help to eliminate the chaff.

After three somewhat "unusual posts" in the psychology department by qwerty and his absence of post during the last 24 hours or so, I wonder if he lives in Bailey, Colorado.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')ee, that's just great news. First I find out we are going back to the stone age and the whole world is a lie, then I find out the universe itself ain't even real, now you are saying its impossible to find that one person I've been looking for becuase said person is really just an illusion. Gee, whats real these days anymore?

Dreams. Dreams are real. In dreams, love is not an illusion. You CAN experience deep, intimate connections with people, and of course, the Earth is a garden of Eden Paradise empty of fuckwits. Are you saying it is not a blessing you experience these things for a full 33% of the day? :-D

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Q')uote:
" Oh, the two-line naysayers. Sounds like they didn't even open the book, let alone slog all the way through to page 673. Anyone who gets to the part about the "gigantic sexual molecule with a female center" and still gives the book a bad review has no soul."

Do you have any idea what he is talking about when refering to the gigantic sexual molecule with a female center?? Sounds interesting..

Ok, 673 in my paperback is the very last page, and doesn't say anything about a sexual molecule. I will have to look out for it. Picking up the book again gets my blood pumping. I feel my canines sharpening just turning the pages.

Her preface provides the most accurate synopsis of the book:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')Sexual Personae seeks to demonstrate the unity and continuity of western culture- something that has inspired little belief since the period before World War I. The book accepts the canonical western tradition and rejects the modernist idea that culture has collapsed into meaningless fragments. I argue that Judeo-Christianity never did defeat paganism, which still flourishes in art, eroticism, astrology, and pop culture."

Chapter 1: Sex and Violence, or Nature and Art
Chapter 2: The Birth of the Western Eye
Chapter 3: Apollo and Dionysis
Chapter 4: Pagan Beauty

Those will take you far in terms of her "radical" ideas.

From page 1:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hat is sex? What is Nature? I see sex and nature as brutal pagan forces. My stress on the truth in sexual stereotypes and on the biologic basis of sex differences is sure to cause controversy. I reaffirm women's ancient mystery and glamour. I see the mother as an overwhelming force which condemns men to lifelong sexual anxiety, from which they escape through rationalism and physical achievement.

I've heard scientists are trying to develope a pill to get rid of the need for sleep.
Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And the fog
Became God

When is science going to get around to helping solve real problems?

More Cyanide. "Death solves all problems - no man, no problem" -Joe Stalin

New and exciting ways to die, that is one thing that science has definitely given us.

Recently read an article contrasting the pre-WWII production of pesticides (0 tons) to todays bounty (500 million tons).

I guess what I long for is an old fashioned baseball bat beatdown of these EarthRaping motherfuckers. You know, pantyhose over the head, Louisville Slugger, kick down the front door, drown the family dog in the toilet, sweatsock in the mouth, break some delicate extremeties and rip out the telephone and utility hookups when you leave.

A fantasy, because you and I know that even the most modestly successful EarthRapers are living the high life, wiping their asses with OldGrowth Toilet paper and fueling the market for furniture made from delicate rare hardwoods, while snapping up Entropy vortexes like Hybrid cars and ascribing their good fortune to their inherent Karmic virtue.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('galacticsurfer', '[')b]The Dover Bitch
by Anthony Hecht

A Criticism of Life: for Andrews Wanning

So there stood Matthew Arnold and this girl
With the cliffs of England crumbling away behind them,
And he said to her, 'Try to be true to me,
And I'll do the same for you, for things are bad
All over, etc., etc.'
Well now, I knew this girl. It's true she had read
Sophocles in a fairly good translation
And caught that bitter allusion to the sea,
But all the time he was talking she had in mind
The notion of what his whiskers would feel like
On the back of her neck. She told me later on
That after a while she got to looking out
At the lights across the channel, and really felt sad,
Thinking of all the wine and enormous beds
And blandishments in French and the perfumes.
And then she got really angry. To have been brought
All the way down from London, and then be addressed
As a sort of mournful cosmic last resort
Is really tough on a girl, and she was pretty.
Anyway, she watched him pace the room
And finger his watch-chain and seem to sweat a bit,
And then she said one or two unprintable things.
But you mustn't judge her by that. What I mean to say is,
She's really all right. I still see her once in a while
And she always treats me right. We have a drink
And I give her a good time, and perhaps it's a year
Before I see her again, but there she is,
Running to fat, but dependable as they come.
And sometimes I bring her a bottle of Nuit d' Amour.

One of my favorite poems.

I've heard of Anthony Hecht and now I know why. Fantastic.
