After observing for a while...

Unread postby halliwell » Wed 11 Oct 2006, 19:11:46

... and don't let my "Joined Date" indicate how long i've been lurking, it's in all honesty been about a month, I have some questions:

1) How many of you, in your informed and honest opinion (this is implied for each question), believe the economic collapse has begun?

2) If you do not believe it has begun, do you believe it is about to and will happen quickly (within the next 2 - 5 years, roughly?)

3) Or do you believe that it will happen 5+ years from now?

4) Do you believe this economic collapse will happen in a smooth (or perhaps rough) transformation from democracy to facism for the American government? Or will it be a doomsayers regretful "I told you so!" scenario, a la the flim Fight Club?

The next set of questions.

5) When concerning Peak Oil, and the PO community, do you believe that it is being stifled for any reason by the government (i.e., do you have a little loose change in your hat?) or do you believe that it is simply observed and ignored due to apathy or lack of easily accessible credible information?

6) Do you believe there will be a PO movement? Unlike the 9/11 movement whose spine is composed of conjecture and conspiracy, but of PO facts.

These are just some of the questions that I understand none of you are obligated to answer, but have peaked my curiosity.

I have yet to post anything due to this: I feel despite reading sources daily that spawn from this forum and LATOC's forum for one solid month, I am unfit to argue/debate the subject due to lack of knowledge. I dislike debating things that I don't feel well-enough educated on.

I also don't mean to wave a finger at Loose Changers, as I have no quarrel with them (and, in fact, agree that some points are quite valid), but unfortunately agree with some on this forum of their ... group mentality, lightly put.

Thanks in advance to those who take time to answer some questions. I can't put names to most of you, but when I read the forum, I see so many valid points that it keeps me coming back daily.

1.Yes
2.Yes
3.Yes
4.50/50
5.No, we stifle ourselves with our short attention span
6. Yes, but we get less press than 9-11 truthers

I became aware of Peak oil 10 years ago when my father(a offshore petroleum engineer) started telling me that we will run out of oil in my lifetime. For years I blew it off and started researching it for myself. There are so many things that contribute to TSHF. You will get a different perspective from everyone here. As someone who with a Business degree, I see Peak Oil a interrupion in the Just-in time inventory/ product on demand logistics that prop up the American economy. Oil touches everything. There is no viable alternative energy that has bang for the buck as oil . If there were such a alternative we are decades away from re-tooling the infrastructure to keep the economy from being affected.

1.) No.
2) No.
3) Yes.
4) Modestly bumpy, but no fascism. We might beg for fascism, but we'll get a Democratic Republic who's incompetence and inefficiency will make todays implementation seem like the height of the Enlightened.
5) PO isn't being supressed, its being acted upon. Note any Resource Wars lately?
6) No. 9/11 has the advantage that they want to persecute someone else. PO implies that you want your own head on the platter.

I'm a long period doomer, essentially, I think we've got several recession and (partial) recovery cycles left to go before all the easy stuff is shooken out of our economy. When the easy stuff is gone, THEN we get splat.
Yes, we are. As we are.
And so shall we remain; Until the end.

FUNK #149 The Endangered US Dollar

The "knowledge" of PO is being suppressed yet I agree it is being acted upon and the only difference is that some of us care that innocent women and children are dying for our "non negotiable way of life" while others care not as they are already dead!
It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.
