Olbermann: “Why does habeas corpus hate America”
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Crooks & Liars', 'K')eith did a great report tonight on what the recently passed Military Commissions Act of 2006 means to America and our Constitution.

Where is the outrage about this? This is really dangerous.

The movie "V For Vendetta" may prove to be a not-so-farfetched glimpse into our future.

I guess everyone ignored this out of ignorance.

Maybe everyone thought habeas corpus was a new Mexican dish.

Seems like we are right on track with Hitler's Germany, dismantling protections against tyrany one step at a time until the unbridled force of government shows up on our very doorsteps.

On America becoming Hitler's Germany:

With all this Guantanamo Bay / Abu Ghraib stuff, I wouldn't put it past our government began an "ethnic clensing" against people of arabic descent. :(

God, I hope not...
I might be wrong.

I bet that as more and more of the Arabs in the US find themselves being rounded up the rest of the US will not care any more than the Germans cared about the Jews being rounded up.

Then it will be Arab sympathizers and then other enemies of the state, and nobody will really care. After all these are the bad guys, right?

Keith Olbermann To Current TV: Hosting New Show, Becoming Chief News Officer
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'K')eith Olbermann announced on Tuesday that he will host a one-hour, nightly primetime show on Current TV starting in late spring. He will also become the "chief news officer" for Current.

In a conference call with reporters on Tuesday morning, Olbermann said that "nothing is more vital to a free America than a free media, and nothing is more vital to my concept of a free media than news that is produced independently of corporate interference." He called Current "the model truth seeking entity" in television, and said that his new show was "the most exciting event in my career."

Olbermann said the show "will be for all intents and purposes an improved and we hope amplified and stronger version of the show that I just did at my previous network." He could not, however, provide details of the name and time of the show, saying only, "stay tuned."

Al Gore, the chairman of Current TV, also spoke on the conference call. He said he was "extremely honored and delighted" that Olbermann was coming to Current. He said Olbermann was a "great fit with Current in every way."

Olbermann will also be the executive producer of the new show. In the conference call, he called Current the only "independent news and information" channel in the United States. He said he was looking forward to working somewhere where "purely market forces are not the deciding factor in what we're doing here."

As Chief News Officer, Current CEO Mark Rosenthal said, Olbermann will be intimately involved with all of the channel's news and informational programming.

Current has already launched a website for Olbermann's upcoming show.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hile Current TV is aiming to make a big splash in television with its announcement Tuesday that Keith Olbermann will join as both nightly on-air talent and equity stakeholder, the network’s executives also claimed to have an eye on making an impact online.

In a conference call with reporters, Current TV co-founder Joel Hyatt indicated the network is in development on ambitious plans for Olbermann’s internet presence.

“We’re working with Keith to do a lot off innovative and new things in how we distribute his commentary online,” said Hyatt, who noted Current TV’s brand has always had a multiplatform emphasis. “We hope to be more significant than just a repeat of the show."

Olbermann echoed Hyatt’s pledge, vowing to “break new ground in how to add value to how people are using our TV product and online so that they’re not totally redundant, so that each provides a separate value to the viewer.”
