PO Theme Song?

Postby lateStarter » Thu 05 Oct 2006, 17:23:21

Since we seem to have struck a musical chord this week in OD, I thought I'd get in on the action with this: What angry/sad song seems to sum up the mood of the day for you? I was almost tempted to say: mood of the worlds citizens, but since most of them don't have access to electricity, never-mind iPods and digital downloads from the net, I'm asking our contemporary West-worlders...

My first 3 suggestions:

Silenced by MudVayne

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')udvayne - Silenced Lyrics

Sticker this
Censor this
Ban this
We've got something to say!
Police this
Condemn this
Damn this
We'll be heard anyway!
Middle finger is the flag that I wave when I'm silenced!

(Listen here)
Is it a possibility,
That we're all just equal?
Slap the power down
(Abuse it)
Oh doesn't it piss you off,
To be beaten at your own game?
You lead us with false morals
And shelter reality!
(No more)
We're not buying your product but you sell it to us preaching
silence!

Insult me in my home
Where you were never invited
To live life on your curb
(Frustrating)
Throw sticks into the spokes
To relieve insecurities
Stifle all dissention
And sticker our freedom of speech!

(So wrong)
Sticker this
Censor this
Ban this
We've got something to say!
Police this
Condemn this
Damn this
We'll be heard anyway!
Middle finger is the flag that I wave when I'm silenced!
(Silenced)

Don't tell me what I want
Don't tell me what I need
Don't tell me how I need to feel
I feel
Goddamn nothing!
Dig the eyes out of my face
I can still see right fucking through you
Fuck you and everything you are
I'm me, we're us, and thats all
Closed mind with a form to criticize
keep your policy I've got mine
exploit me
Fabricate your lies
We empower these cowards just to be left in silence

(Listen here)
Stand on my soapbox
And speak my own piece
Whatever you may think
(It's real)
Prevail through what is me
And step on your beliefs
Thieving spineless sellouts
Raping our integrity!

(Bring it on)
Sticker this
Censor this
Ban this
We've got something to say!
Police this
Condemn this
Damn this
We'll be heard anyway!
Middle finger is the flag that I wave when I'm...

I admit that the lyrics are almost undecipherable, but if you listen to the song, the rage still comes thru...

Save Yourself - Stabbing Westward
and based on the mix of folks here: Jesus or a Gun by Fuel...

Billie Holliday is Ok too. As well as Neil Young...

Maybe music from Schindlers list, that would be good.

Sad, but beautiful.

Petroleum Distillation
Fifteen

Been having a hard time trying to Justify.
The clouds rising from the cars we drive.
And a little to easy seems just a little too hard today.
And I'm affraid my children are going to have to watch the
world waste away.
Been having a hard time trying to accept the fact.
Paying money for four walls keeps your slavery intact.
And a little to easy seems just a little too hard today.
And I'm affraid my children are going to have to watch the
world slip away.
I know I know I know I know life has become slavery.
It costs $2 a minute plus additional charges to talk to god
today.
See I've been looking for some guidance but the voice on the
phone ain't got a damn thing to say.
And a litte to easy seems just a little too hard today.
And I'm affraid my children are going to have to watch the
world fade away.
I was born a little too late (478 years) to see the dream
they called America.
See I only want to be a free man but its against the law to
sleep on the ground in gods land.
And a little too easy is a little bit insane and I'm affraid
I'm gonna have to run for my life one of these days.
I know that life has become slavery.
The earth is my body it's been poisoned with lead+junk
fook+toxic waste.
The sky is my mind it's been clouded with
cigarettes+fluorocarbons+petroleum distillates.
The water's my heart its been broken with
booze+drugs+shooting up paste.
The sun is my spirit it belongs to all of us I guess we're
all just one sick race.
And autonomy shall reward itself with freedom.
And humility shall reward itself with peace.
And the dissolution of possession and the integration of
humanity shall bring forth a sharing of our responsibility.
For our lives and our earth.

Excellent suggestion Kylon! I'll burn a copy and then visit some of the original locations here in Warsaw and elsewhere in Poland. I'm sure I'll be ready for some decent single-malt Scotch after that trip. WTF is the human race doing? So many possibilities, so much squandered...

The lyrics look promising holmes! If the music is as raw, it should be interesting. I'll get back to you after I hear it.. Thanks

I always thought Invisible Sun by the Police would be good for Doomer Porn in general...

I don't want to spend the rest of my life
Looking at the barrel of an Armalite
I don't want to spend the rest of my days
Keeping out of trouble like the soldiers say
I don't want to spend my time in hell
Looking at the walls of a prison cell
I don't ever want to play the part
Of a statistic on a government chart

There has to be an invisible sun
It gives its heat to everyone
There has to be an invisible sun
That gives us hope when the whole day's done

It's dark all day and it glows all night
Factory smoke and acetylene light
I face the day with me head caved in
Looking like something that the cat brought in

There has to be an invisible sun
It gives its heat to everyone
There has to be an invisible sun
That gives us hope when the whole day's done

And they're only going to change this place
By killing everybody in the human race
They would kill me for a cigarette
But I don't even wanna die just yet

There has to be an invisible sun
It gives its heat to everyone
There has to be an invisible sun
That gives us hope when the whole day's done
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Jeff Ott and his old Band Fifteen are serious raw punk rockers. Jeff Ott is a friend of mine and he writes books as well.
The music is all raw.

This would be my first choice.

Dire Straits - Telegraph road.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') long time ago came a man on a track
Walking thirty miles with a pack on his back
And he put down his load where he thought it was the best
Made a home in the wilderness
He built a cabin and a winter store
And he ploughed up the ground by the cold lake shore
And the other travellers came riding down the track
And they never went further, no, they never went back
Then came the churches then came the schools
Then came the lawyers then came the rules
Then came the trains and the trucks with their loads
And the dirty old track was the telegraph road

Then came the mines - then came the ore
Then there was the hard times then there was a war
Telegraph sang a song about the world outside
Telegraph road got so deep and so wide
Like a rolling river. . .

And my radio says tonight its gonna freeze
People driving home from the factories
Theres six lanes of traffic
Three lanes moving slow. . .

I used to like to go to work but they shut it down
I got a right to go to work but theres no work here to be found
Yes and they say were gonna have to pay whats owed
Were gonna have to reap from some seed thats been sowed
And the birds up on the wires and the telegraph poles
They can always fly away from this rain and this cold
You can hear them singing out their telegraph code
All the way down the telegraph road

You know Id sooner forget but I remember those nights
When life was just a bet on a race between the lights
You had your head on my shoulder you had your hand in my hair
Now you act a little colder like you dont seem to care
But believe in me baby and Ill take you away
From out of this darkness and into the day
From these rivers of headlights these rivers of rain
From the anger that lives on the streets with these names
cos Ive run every red light on memory lane
Ive seen desperation explode into flames
And I dont want to see it again. . .

>from all of these signs saying sorry but were closed
All the way down the telegraph road

But Mule Sting is so mainstream and elite that his days with the police are long gone. We need raw brutal underground punk where they never sell out. ever. But good song nontheless. The police were so raw in the day.
no problem!

We need undergound stuff. Dire straights are way too mainstream. We need brutality for PO

Yes and no... It could just as easily be touchingly sad. C'mon holmes - open up! I know you have at least one sad song in your repertoire that haunted you for a long time...

OK try this...

Disturbed just redid Genesis Land of Confusion and had Spawn's Todd McFarlane do the video. Very anthem like-makes the hairs on my arm stand up.

OK brutality it is then.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')layer - Skeletons of society

Minutes seems like days
Since the fire ruled the sky
The rich became the beggar
And the fool became the wise
Memories linger in my brain
Of burning from the acid rain
A pain I never have won

Nothing here remains
No future and no past
No one could foresee
The end that came so fast
Hear the prophet make his guess
That paradise lies in the west
So join his quest for the sun

Shades of death are all I see
Fragments of what used to be

The world slowly decays
Destruction fills my eyes
Harboring the image
Of a spiraling demise
Burning winds release their fury
Simulating judge and jury
Drifting flurries of pain

Deafening silence reigns
As twilight fills the sky
Eventual supremacy
[as] daylight waits to die
Darkness always calls my name
A pawn in this recurring game
Humanity going insane

Shades of death are all I see
[skeletons of society
Shades of death are all I see]
Fragments of what used to be
[fragments of what used to be
Skeletons of society]

Minutes seem like days
Corrosion fills the sky
Morbid dreams of anarchy
Brought judgment in disguise
Memories linger in my brain
Life with nothing more to gain
Perpetual madness remains

Shades of death are all I see
Skeletons of society
[shades of death are all I see]
Fragments of what used to be
[fragments of what used to be]
Skeletons of society

Well PMS if you must have the Sweet and the Sour in your doomer anthem I'd pick "It's a Beautiful World" by DEVO
