There was an interesting movie about this: Breast Men about a couple of doctors who were in on the ground floor of the whole breast enhancement phenomenon. Then when the bogus (as SPG has told us, no doubt true) lawsuits and bad publicity came out they went broke. Then they found a new racket: removing breast implants! The weirdest thing about the movie was these women who kept coming back complaining their breasts still weren't large enough, they wanted bigger. They kept doing this until thay were carrying around enormous, I mean totally enormous boobs. The doctors were getting uneasy, but they kept doing the surgeries. The flick had a unique ending which I won't tell you about.

I often wonder if anthropologists several hundred years from now will find skeletons with perfectly preserved silicon implants somewhere around the rib cage. What a fascinating find of a peculiar culture. They will have many interesting things to say about us.

It's one thing to read what medical journals have to say or ponder the chemical nature of silicon.

It's another thing to have common sense. Common sense says it's not wise to cut open your chest and stuff silicon globules inside and seal your chest back up.

If Holmes stripper friend says her implants are causing her problems, I'll take that over what a bunch of pointy heads in lab coats have to say.

It's kind of like a "10 year scientific study" to determine if dolphins are "Intelligent." Well, anyone who has worked with dolphins can tell you they are intelligent. So much science today is pretensious and overwrought.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('seldom_seen', 'I')f Holmes stripper friend says her implants are causing her problems, I'll take that over what a bunch of pointy heads in lab coats have to say.

Determining causation can be a really tricky thing. I don't doubt that she had implants, and I don't doubt that she feels sick. That doesn't necessarily equate to the implants are making her feel sick. Lots of people who don't have implants feel sick. Lots of people who do have implants don't feel sick. I know lots of people that are convinced they are sick for all sorts of wacky reasons. Just because you smelled someones perfume today and you feel sick today doesn't mean that the perfume made you sick. Unlike most of the chemicals in our air, our food, and our water, the health effects of silicone has been extensively studied for decades by hundreds of scientists and nobody can link it to anything bad happening to people. How many compounds is she exposed to everyday that haven't been as thouraghly tested?

That being said, I agree with what you said about common sense. I would not let someone cut my body open and stuff it full of plastic. The best evidence we have today is that it doesn't make people sick. Maybe tommorrow they discover it causes you to get lung cancer 30 years after you get them or something. I don't want to be the guinea pig. Being careful though is not a proof of harmfulness.

I lost my way" - OCMS

Well, my eyes are covered with silicone, but I'm sure that's much more inert than silicone breast implants

seldom seen is correct once again. She had them removed and voila she regained her health. She was deteriorating. Now everyone has different reactions. Heres a little note on the stripper scene: many of the women have health issues with them yet they need to have them in to be more profitable. Its common knowldge they have issues associated with them. Im using common sense and anything in the body thats not there when u were born is going to be fought. Surgical steel in my reconstructed toes is ok. silicon is a different story.
