I agree with TJ that this is no more a moral failing of the Americans than say a Lebanese Shia who decides to fight for Hezzbollah or an Israeli who joins the IDF and is posted in the West Bank.

This is their culture, one that is extremely inward looking generally speaking, where they have lived in all their lives and their only source of information about those far off events is a biased media with its own agenda.

Miki, if you were born in the US I think there would be a 50:50 chance that you would vote Republican, support George Bush, drive an SUV, rail against those evil Arabs and whine about the gas prices:)
I play the cards I'm dealt, though I sometimes bluff.

Yeah - ones a dirt farmer who's people subsides on $1 a day or less.
Some of the other players are the worlds greatest economies and militaries .
Yeah I would say they are equally guilty........................................

Oh yeah!?! well you had a 50:50 chance of worshipping either a cow or a rat!!! ;-)

IMHO - I say you give the average dumbass way too much credit and conversely you also probably underestimate............something everyone should not

Now pray to something that we do not find vast deposits of hydrocarbons somewhere inside your country because if we/someone does - you would be singing a much different tune shortly.
It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

"whom" is supposed to be the object of a sentence, not the subject. You would have known that when they told you in school if you weren't stoned. :)

> It has a lot of relevance when they're getting atacked as a consequence.

Like SPG says, they are not being attacked. All that 9/11 stuff was a TV show. They are not going to be attacked because they don't work on Wall Street or fly on airplanes.

> And if it has no relevance, how come the last few elections have been heavily influenced by how the government handles terrorism?

They haven't.

>> That is no a moral failure on their part.
> I disagree. If you condone the atacks of your government against other people, then you must bear the consequences.

Again, you do not understand. The vast majority of Americans do not even know America attacks other countries for anything other than justice for 9/11. How could they condone America unjustly attacking other countries if they aren't even aware of it?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MountainHiker', 'C')onsidering our foreign policy digs us deeper into debt every single day and drags down the economy, it does affect Americans. They just choose not think it does or they prefer ignorance.

I agree. Our foreign policy does affect every American in the way you describe. My point is that in regards to the day-to-day concerns, the effect is miniscule in comparison to problems like:
"Will my employer close this factory next month"
"I hope I can make it to payday without getting popped $120 for the expired inspection sticker on my car"
"Oh lovely, the Mexicans have started breeding Pit Bulldogs across the street"

In November, will we vote for the candidate who will reduce the National Debt, get Israel's hand out of my pocket, and stop inflating my retirement savings into nothing? No, because he's not on the ballot.

If I need a candidate who will either A. loot taxpayers to provide me more free goodies, or B. foam at the mouth over Terry Shivo and homerseckshuls, well, I'm pretty well covered there.
