Finally Going To Dylan In Concert

Postby PenultimateManStanding » Fri 29 Sep 2006, 18:10:01

I got brand new hearing aids a couple of days ago. Amazing progress has been made in this area. I tried them out with my current Math class. Works quite well. Not as well as I might have hoped but I can finally hear directionally and I can pick out a voice from across a room. So I told the class about it and how I was going to get tickets for the Bob Dylan concert here in San Diego for Oct 22 for me and my son. I avoided such things before. He invited me to go with him to a classical concert once and I declined because it hurt me to miss out. But I got these hearing aids and he said, "Dad, Dylan is going to be here in San Diego." So we're going. The students in the class asked me about music bands I like. I asked them if they like what is current. They all told me it sucks. They go looking back to the 90's and 80's and 70's looking for something good. One boy asked me if I liked the Beatles. I told him about the kid at one school once who did that and I answered yes and he said, "I hate the Beatles". Turns out the kid was sincere and he likes the Beatles. They told me about a teacher at this school who use to play for Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, who had a couple of hits. Music is a great ice breaker for the different generations. I told them how I saw Led Zeppelin in concert.

Zep was the highlight of my concert going youth. Amazing. That fantastic drummer they had was still alive at that time. I was transfixed by the drum solo. Granted I was stoned at the time, but wow! (I can't Tell that to the high school kids, but maybe they can guess  )

That's what I told my son. He loves those old Dylan albums. But you never know what you are going to get at a Dylan concert. Sometimes he's sublime, sometimes he's shit. heh heh, I'm going anyway!

His name was John Bonham and he was one of the greatest drummers ever.

Sad that the drug alcohol was his favorite.

John Bonham

I told Bob what you said about him - he wants you to come back stage after the show ;-)

all kidding aside, no one can beat the Beatles for the Sound. Dylan was jealous, without a doubt. "I'm Looking Through You, You're not The Same"

Ever heard the soundtrack to "Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid"? It's awfully pretty music.

Led Zeppelin were one of my favorite bands growing up - I still love most of their music. Early Beatles stuff is fun to sing - my daughter and I sing harmony to a lot of their songs. The Who were great, too. A lot of good bands came from across the Atlantic back then. I've loved a lot of music through the years, good American bands, a few Canadian ones, and even some of the stuff my kids listen to. I haven't been to a lot of concerts, but I like the volume UP when I'm at home!

and I'm still jealous

I did spend £50 to see him a while ago, 8 years I think.

I couldn't tell what he was saying :x

Sometimes I think he's just lazy.

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
Kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny and his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule
