Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Unread postby Aaron » Thu 28 Sep 2006, 15:16:09

So let's assume...

<Don't you hate arguments which begin like that?>

... that you are a Christian. You have accepted Jesus as your saviour, and are utterly certain that Heaven awaits you in the afterlife.

So after you die, you pretty quickly realize that one of the world's other major religions was actually real, & your Christian beliefs were just a bunch of nonsense.

The question is... if their God gave you an opportunity to convert to whatever, right then & there... would you?

Why/Why Not?
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

I suppose that what-if would apply to qwerty's atheist argument as well, fully expecting to just die and be nothing and then whoops! some diety giving em hell.. 8)

Don't know. Its sorta one of those questions where you ask, "If you have the dude in the crosshairs, do you pull the trigger." Most people can't answer that question honestly without having tried it.

So...

My answer has to be... No Clue.

*addressing this question in no way implies that I consider the premise of the question to be factual.

If there really was a God, WHICH THERE ISN'T, I would tell God to go to hell and then I would try my best to kill God.

Ok... but after failing to kill him/her/it (as the case may be)... what then?

Do you choose to roast/rebirth/boredom (as the case may be), or do you get on board with this?

And what if it was one of the really weird religions?

It depends on how my mood is that day. If I'm bored and wishing I hadn't gotten out of bed that day, then I'd convert what ever, its not like it means anything. Look at all the lip service offered up today.

but if it were a real God and they could see my soul they would know its blackest pitch and would just show me the way to hell where i'd set about taking over.

Well, if it was Mars you tried to kill....

He'd pin you beneath his boot for all eternity, spending his time alternately peeling the skin off your legs and then repairing the injury so he could do it again.

Might be a good idea to ask which God before attempting to slay him, her,or it.

A good movie about the afterlife is "what dreams may come".
This movie explores the concept of DEVACHAN or "happy place".

After God hadn't been seen in six days, Michael the Archangel found him and asked where He had been.

God pointed downwards and said, "I made a planet and put life on it. I call it Earth and it will be a place of perfect balance."

"Balance?" inquired Michael. God explained, "Yes, for example, Northern Europe is a place of opportunity and wealth, while Southern Europe is poor.

The Middle East will be a hot spot. I made a continent of white people and another of black people. One area is hot and arid, while others are cold and covered with ice."

Michael was impressed. But then he pointed to a large land mass and asked, "What's that one?"

"Ah," said God. "That's Canada, the most glorious place of all. There are mountains, lakes, streams and an exquisite coast line. The people are modest, intelligent, humorous, sociable, hard-working, high-achieving, peace-loving diplomats."

Michael nodded, but then asked, "What about balance, God? You said Earth was a place of perfect balance!"

God replied wisely, "Wait till you see the assholes I put next to them!"

If I died and found out a god really did rule the universe... would I convert? Well, I would hope, as the universe is pretty much a logical, reasonably well-run place on the whole, that the god would be a reasonable and logical god (ie. unlike any that people actually worship now). If so I probably would convert because the god of the universe should be just what is needed to make the universe make sense. If he/she was a weird god with strange ideas I would be very tempted to call them a liar.
Kind regards, Katkinkate
