Would you all think its a waste if?

Would you guys all feel like idiots and that you wasted your time by some chance that we have enough energy to last our lifetimes, and this lifestyle does go on? Would you all feel like an idiot? Just curious. That is what keeps me most from dong anything cause im afraid what if im wrong and the 98% of the world is right and thse so called alternatives, oil shale, and a bunch of other crap to save the day.

Perhaps there is some new source of energy that will reveal itself and technology will save us yet if you understand where most of our recent tech has evolved from (100 years of cheap energy) then it is not hard to realize that time is running out for these hopes and dreams.

What would edison be if not for homeschooling and junk to play/experiment with?
Would Einstein have changed the world if he didnt work in a patent office and see all the inventions that were changing the world at the time ala cheap energy?

Cheap energy slaves have given some of us time to think beyond our next meal.

Our progress over the last century or so is no coincidence.
As hydrocarbons deplete it will be no coincidence if our progress ceases or even degrades.

Back to the stone age?
Would it be any real surprise?
We would simply be returning "home".

Im just afraid to be honest and am hoping it doesn't happen cause i know i will not be one of the survivors. I still drive to work, i take no precautions. I did buy energy saving lightbulbs but my computer usage makes up for how much energy i waste. I go drive places on impulse. I really want to stop myself. Also im in alot of debt that i want to get out of. Where i live its impossible to practice any kind of sustainable living and have no money for books on how to do it. To be honest in 10 years or 15 from now i can imagine myself starving to death in a corner of a wreaked out house clutching a cloth, and ridden with disease.

Yes, I also dont fancy my chances of survival if industrial society does go down, perhaps that is why I have convinced myself that it is not going to happen. In anycase, assuming that there will be an energy crunch in the near future, I think that atleast is inevitable, I hope I have atleast 5-7 years or so before I would consider myself ready. Maybe if the world economy slows down and depletion rates are lower than normal we can hold off an energy crunch until the middle of the next decade.

Only if we were to be keep being sustained by fossil fuels, would I feel a little foolish... If some other energy related technological breakthrough occurs to replace fossil fuels, then nobody from this site should feel foolish, except specop, she can't help it.

This article made me think of something. Does everyone remember the big stink that was made about hyrogen fuel in the last presidential election? Or perhaps it was the first time Bush ran, I cant remember ( I must be getting old). Anyway, it seamed like the topic got dropped all together, I wonder why?

I am in the Auto business and we used to hear about hydrogen fuel and we hear nothing anymore.

I am 24 years old. If I live to 60 and things are still the same, people driving cars and sipping cappucino, I'll feel like a jackass. I would be VERY happy if that happened though. I love cars and computers and supermarket shopping. We live in a wondrous age, where we have more energy and more fancy tools than anyone before us. Everything is soo easy. Once the party is over, no species on this planet will ever enjoy our level of prosperity. I am happy I at least got to see it.

I paid my auto insurance just this week covering the next six months, and boy, if I don't have a serious wreck before the six months covered by the premium have expired, I sure am going to feel like an idiot.

Cool but than of course if u do practice energy convervation even to extreme measures what do you have to lose? You help out either way whether everything goes to shit or not. Which gave me a idea for another thread im on a roll baby
