Whatever you have. heard individuals cant make a difference. It has to be a collective effort of everyone. Sp basically what im saying to all of you here that practice energy conservation. Who cares your not gonna make a difference. Get in your car and drive around for 6 hours pointlessly. Go to wal mart ask for each product in its own bag and than put into a larger bag. Go out and consume consume consume like everyone else. I use to worry about how i used energy but for the last 6 months i dont really care anymore. One indiviudal cannot make a diffeence so im gonna take part in the american way while its still here.

Ultimately I have to do what feels right to me and fits my morals. I can't control anyone else!! So I conserve. reduce, recycle, etc.

How about I don't do that stuff and spend the money I save on a paid off mortgage, a lifetime supply of bike chains and innertubes, and a yard full of fruits and vegetables.

Those that respond to the spectre of peak oil by wanting to live "The American Way" as long as they can have simply not yet woken up from the heavily marketed delusion that it is the path to happiness.

I think the majority of the people on this board would benefit greatly from some form of psychological meds.

Seriously.

It's a steady mix of bizarre meets very depressing, and none of it is healthy. I rarely come around here, but when I do I'm left wondering, "If they're all so convinced, why aren't they putting their energy into learning about exactly how they can benefit off of this?". And believe me, there will be people benefitting. If this is what you truly, truly believe, then I suggest you take a step back from the constant Doomsday ranting that goes on here, and look clearly and objectively towards how you can gain off of this. Listening to you guys sit and moan about how total devastation is just around the corner and you will need to eat your cat gets boring.

to be honest i dont really believe its gonna be liek most people on here. Everyone will be running around with shot guns shooting each other over scraps of food. I think its gonna be a radical lifestyle change, but not the end of life.

(b) If we are profiting why would we tell you?

I'm afraid that many of them will never wake up, NeoPeasant. They'll continue to crawl around in their cribs of consumerism for as long as they can. And think they're having a good time.

The opening post reflects that sort of infantilism.

Gees.....you still believe in that sack of bs! This voting malarky is nothing other than a velvet dictatorship....nothing changes apart from the head honcho and the feel good factor. The papers still spew out elite propaganda and the planet goes from bad to bloody awful.

Oh yeah, and Nando's hair styling expenses also increase into the heady heights of Wadestown.....hahahaha. Gimme commie dictators in bad overcoats, two colours-grey and grey and no supermarkets-any day.

Oh sheesh. Pick a side and vote as a sport then. Even if you think they're both bad. If your town has a sucky basketball team, you can still chear for them, and show up when they play another sucky team. You don't have to be under any illusions about their abilities; but it can still be fun.

Well, I am. Not exactly thinking of beneffiting (I'm terrible at that), but definitely thinking of being in the best possible position I can manage.

So far I am:

1. Organizing a local peak oil group, so people will remember me as somebody who was trying to help from the beginning, and hopefully this will bring some better prospects for me in the future.

2. Changing my job to one closer to where I live.

3. Trying to buy a houseboat, so I will have somewhere to live even if the economy crashes catastrophically.

4. Investing a little money I have in: a) Oil and electricity shares b) inflation-protected bonds

5. Learning everything I can about energy saving and applying energy-saving tips to my home.
