Apparently the American law is not that straightforward about matters like this. If it was as obvious as you claim, the guy wou;ld have been jailed the same day that he was "visited" by the FBI.
No, actually this just shows that the rule of law still applies in the US.
The SFPD and the FBI go to the guys house and he refuses to hand over the tape. Unlike many Arabic countries where they would just proceed to stomp his head in, the Cops have to go before a judge show why this evidence is important and if the judge agrees he or she will issue a court order for the guy to hand over the tape.
That is when the guy was put in jail after he refused to follow the court order to hand over the tape.
The topic of this thread is government cracking down on reporters nothing about which government.
Zahra Kazemi is an example of how they do that Iranian style.
Let me ask you where would you want to be a investigative reporter critical of the government? The US or Iran?
Or how about this Miki why don't you start printing stuff critical of Hezbollah. How long would that last? You criticize our freedom of the press while you have none yourself.
