$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Niagara', 'I') remember the heyday of the late '90's Nasdaq stock market boom. I was very active in many stock trading forums (
Raging Bull,
Yahoo,
Stockhouse, etc. )
I attended a few of the annual general meetings of companies I owned shares in. It was a weird experience to meet some of the identities from the chatrooms.
Online I was somewhat "aggressive"

towards the bashers (those who had short positions and bad-mouthed the stock to disuade investors). I was a bit nervous to show my face and reveal my online identity. Those chatrooms could get quite nasty. They still do.
But it was a great experience. A bunch of met and introduced ourselves, we hooked up for lunch or drinks afterwards and struck up some friendships.
All in all, a nice experience.
Interesting perspective, Niagara.
I also think that fears of getting bashed in the mouth at such an event are exaggerated. I'm not afraid of meeting my own arch enemies. And if they wanted to bash me in the mouth, they might think twice about it when they saw me and my farmer's fists.
To work, such an event would probably have to be planned, coordinated, and publicized by the big cheeses here at PO.com.
Given the relatively small size of our organization and the limited funds and wide geographic distribution of members, such an event might be held every two years, not annually.
Goals would include not only meeting and educating one another but gaining $$ for the site and new members and of course setting forth the case of PO for the public.
If toilet manufacturers can hold conventions, so can PO.com. It's all a matter of one's priorities.
