I've always found the theory and praxis of social ecology fascinating. Bookchin was an intelligent, rational and innovative thinker. He's one of the few people who made anarchist discourse seem more than viable and not some insurrectionary fantasy.

Rest in peace, Mr. Bookchin.

Crocodile Hunter dies in freak accident

Unread postby duke3522 » Mon 04 Sep 2006, 01:18:25

Not really a surprise.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')teve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, has died while filming a documentary off the coast of north Queensland, when a stingray barb went through his chest.

Great minds think alike Frank. Steve was pretty cool. My kid really liked his show.

Being an Aussie myself, he was kind of cringeworthy, but even so, like most people, I was extremely shocked to hear about this... he had such a spirit and love of life.

I straight away thought of his two kids. Those poor bloody kids. His wife too.

Rest in peace

Pretty much, my position's what traz said... Cringeworthy, but he loved what he was doing, and did it well.

And of course, complete condolences to his wife and kids.

As they say down here "If you aren't living on the edge, you are taking up too much room."

Stunned, but not as much as Steve was.

Very sad :(What an icon!

I recently dived at the same spot ( Low Isles) where he was killed, too.

No it's not surprising at all that he would die while frivolously screwing around with some sort of potentially lethal creature.

I heard that it's only the second or third recorded death from a stingway in Australia's history...it's quite unlucky.

There will most likely be a State funeral for Steve.

I think it's admirable to take on a challenge, whatever the challenge is. Much better than to live like a mediocre lifeless plant all your life. Besides, the guy brought a lot of attention to the beauty of wild animals, raising both consciousness and money for their protection.

It's just very sad that such a young handsome healthy guy and father of young children (child?) would have such a tragic death.

May God hold him in His glory, and help his family get through this.

A great loss for Australia and the world.
Earth needs more champions.

To all of you who were touched by his work and who realize how great a loss this is - we mourn with you.

We believe Steve's work has and will spawn many more naturalist's that will continue to enlighten, entertain and champion the cause of nature.

My family is stunned and saddened. He was such a character. We loved him. This is hard to believe.

Apparently he snorkled over a ray that was buried in the sand, and it hit him right in the heart.

We'll really miss him.

Give it a couple more years and we'll have killed off all those annoying and dangerous sea creatures by raising the acidity of the oceans. That'll teach them.

Then if we could just dry up the seas think of all the extra space we would have for housing developments etc. It would do away with deep sea drilling for oil as well. Hopefully global warming will boil off the oceans so we can drive from Europe to America and bungee jump off the Marinas trench.

(Note to anally retentive - this is sarcasm)

Seriously though - My Prayers to the family of Steve Irwin
