If they don't oil is headed down, due to demand destruction, softening economies. Peak oil, barring extreme political events, will be very difficult but manageable and isn't worthy of tearing one's hair out by the roots, with anxiety.

Ultimately the fed will lose control of inflation, regardless of how they tweak interest rates. The end point, barring intervention on a biblical scale, is sky high interest rates AND sky high inflation, asset deflation.--could take a couple of years though

Got gold?

I couldn't agree more.
I think Peak Economy will precede Peak Oil (that's why I bought peakeconomy.com). The dollar is on very shakey ground and its peak buying power will be very recognizable in hindsight.

Bring in the helicopters.

Thank you, Hog. Please tell me more about your website. Peakeconomy. I'm very interested in that. There's actually a dearth of comprehensive sites about economy out there. Hopefully, yours will serve as a beacon to deflationists and others.

Well there isn't much to it right now, a nice helicopter Ben picture that I made and a general site layout. I'm more interested in studying and hypothesizing about economics than I am in writing web code and keeping a site updated. At some point I will get off my lazy butt and do something with it. Maybe I can get Mogambo and Ted Butler to write for me.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('HonestPessimist', 'T')his is a very misleading news, going toward $2 a gallon at the beginning of a major hurricane season and with all the negotiation ruckus with Iran in the Middle East?

Very misleading, indeed. :-x

My sentiments exactly, however, the powers that be have an election on their hands. We'll get to see just how powerful they are.
