Congressional medal of honour.

Miki is only long winded because she's defending her point of view, which requires explanation. What's she supposed to do, defend herself telepathically? When did Peak Oil become a forum for psychics?

I am constantly amazed at people, (men) taking a jocular, goading position towards a young woman, who, in a spirit of good will, has been trying to describe her and her countrymen's plight. PMS, this girl is likely about the same age as your own daughter. How would you feel if she was in Lebanon, in spite of all your elitist drek about low-life Arabs?

A lot of people talking, few people listening.

I say give her her own forum too.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ElijahJones', 'B')ut I had to hit the ignore button after I realized that she is a member of Hezbollah, or perhaps a propoganda slave they roll out to put anti-Israeli rhetoric on important policy sites like this one.

Maybe she is, but maybe she isn't. In fact, I find it more worrying to think that she isn't. If there is a significant number of normal Lebanese people that think like her, the situation over there is pretty screwed, isn't it?

Important policy site? That's news to me. I didn't know you guys had any say on American foreign policy.

I can understand your disgust with anti-Israeli rhetoric. Nothing surprising considering that you think that:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ElijahJones', 'T')he Bible says God will defend Israel and God will deliver the righteous.

Keep provoking the Children of Israel and God Himself will be your enemy.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ElijahJones', 'T')he only way it ends is if the West abandons Israel, but then Israel has been promised by their God that once He has gathered again they shall never again be sent into exile. with apocalyptic Muslim whackos running Iran it looks like we will see whose God is God, and whether thee is one. I think that is the story of these times, a time when the God of the Bible will be glorified in His people. But to someone that makes me a whacko. but then my God does not call me to kill people or to kill myself.

Face it, Miki, nobody likes the Palestinians. Nobody cares about them. It's true of the Lebanese and the Jordanians as well.

Now you may well dispute the above assertion - but note well that despite the often published difficulties of the Pales., no one does anything to change their lot. They don't help themselves - neither Arafat nor anyone else has uplifted them. Their Arab neighbors do not - they clearly don't want the Pales. in their respective countries.

I suppose that God put a "kick me" sign on their back and everyone is having a fine time at their expense. I really don't expect this to change.

Oh, well. Someone has to be at the bottom of the heap, so it may as well be them.

Maybe one day what people will say is: "Nobody likes the Americans." And we will hear news about terrible things happening over there, and nobody will move a finger.

Are you going to say then: "Somebody has to be at the bottom of the heap, and it might as well be us"?

My good Doly - not only is it possible, I suspect it's likely.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Doly', '
')Are you going to say then: "Somebody has to be at the bottom of the heap, and it might as well be us"?

No - what I will say then is: "See? You tried to help the rest of the world, you sent them massive amounts of aid, permitted them to immigrate to the U.S., and did everything to lift them up - and they stabbed you in the back. As soon as we need some help, they turn on us like a pack of dogs."

Note - it doesn't matter whether any of this is true. All that matters is that the audience must believe it. And, they will.

Then I will encourage others to become rabid nationalists, taking care of ourselves and viewing the rest of the world as the enemy.

At least Americans will have earned world enmity.

Never work. America isn't one nation. It's dozens held together with the duct tape of oppulence.

Besides you do that already. :P

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'F')ace it, Miki, nobody likes the Palestinians. Nobody cares about them. It's true of the Lebanese and the Jordanians as well.

I have to disagree on that point....the entirety of the Arab World and the non-Arab/Persian part of the Middle East do care. I have spent a considerable amount of time throughout this part of the world over the last 25 years or so and I don't think I have ever met a Saudi, Qatari, Emirates, Iraqi etc that, after you got to know them a bit, was quite vocal in their opinion of how the Palestinians have gotten the short end of the stick. I have met Palestinians who have emigrated to parts of the Middle East or Arab North Africa, sat beside one on a recent flight from Europe who had moved to Libya,....this is no different than the US approach to countries such as Sudan, you offer the availability for southern Sudanese to emigrate to the US but you make it difficult and limit the numbers.
If there is anything that has the potential to blow up in the US collective face it is this misunderstanding of how big of an issue this is for Arabs/Persians. If you understood this part of the world you would realize it is quite factious...the Persians disagree with Arab neighbours on most things, the Saudis disagree on religion and other issues with their neighbours in Bahrain, Qatar and UAE. But when it comes to the Palestinian issue they are all in total agreement....Israel is in the wrong and needs to adhere to UN resolutions, without question.
If there is going to be all out war in the Middle East it will start with the Israel/Palestine issue and I believe we came pretty darned close just recently.

Of course the Palestinians got the short end of the stick. They backed Hitler and they are on the losing end of modern history. How would you propose we resolve this?

It's a trivial point, rockdoc. Nobody noticed it but you. BTW, what do you think of these reports that the Atlantic has cooled? Seems like a geophysical rebuke to the global warming crowd.

PMS....bad dog...bad dog. Hijacking attempt alert! ;-)

Actually similar reports have been around for a number of years about most of the ice sheet spreading further, with the exception of a small area that is often used to argue the ice sheet is disappearing. Regardless some of the folks who fool around with GCM would argue this is all predicted by global warming!

And to get back to topic perhaps the whole problem in the Middle East is related to global warming....a dish dash has become less protective to the increasing heat which creates considerable irritation and heat rash which results in crazed individuals seeking revenge on those who live in temperate climates.

And BTW my vote is for Miki to keep posting as often and as much as she can on the Palestinian situation. Western ignorance and isolation is unacceptable IMHO....sometimes you have to hit people over the head with a sledgehammer before you get their attention.

Was it a fact that Pals supported the Axis powers in the War? I know that the "Grand" Mufti Haajj Amin al-Husseini was a very close friend of the Nazis despite being Muslim, but he was more or less appointed by the British in the '20's to the leader as for a more 'balanced' power in Palestine.

heh heh, you are funny, rockdoc. That's why I like this site, people here make me laugh. BTW the cooling in the Atlantic took place between 2003 and 2005 so there couldn't have been talk about this "for years". It's a recent development. And as for miki, I agree: I hope she keeps posting and stirring things up. I value it.
