God damn I miss those landings in Kai Tak.
When I was little, I remember being able to see people's TVs out of the airplane window looking into windows of ppl's apartments. And then right before it would land on the runway (if it was windy enough) they had to fly forward sideways then turn as it was about to land! awesome! I love oding that on flight simulator

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Lighthouse', 'I') remember a time where people smoked on planes, had loud parties with lots of alcohol and there were not much security checks at the airports. You could ask the flight crew to go into the cockpit and sit on the jump seat during the landing. (I remember a impressive landing of a 747 on the old Hong Kong airport me sitting in the cockpit on the jump seat, joking around with the captain)

Now the plane will turn around and people get arrested because they are playing with mobile phones or unfasten seat-belts before the sign is switched off.
Given that jet aircraft have a huge demand for petroleum (kerosene) and given that TPTB know there is an ongoing crisis with oil production would it be so much of a leap to say that they are involved with trying to disengage the populace from flying so much by gradually making it less appealing?

Never mind:

Flight alert 'not terror related'

Apparently this was "nervous air marshal" related. From now on, only people of northern European extraction will be allowed to fidget with mobile phones and plastic bags.

You could be right. I'm holding an ATPL (737-Rating) and come so far that I hate to fly as passenger on a commercial airliner.

Please spare me this crap. You honestly trying to tell us all this security shit makes flying safer? Its just an excuse for an police state where the authorities are knowing everything bout everyone.

Conspiracies or not, there are people out there trying to take down planes. Stopping that is paramount, if you feel hard done by fuck off and don't fly.

Its' the whining that annoys me.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Battle_Scarred_Galactico', 'S')topping that is paramount...

What if there was no stopping that?

Even if we're found to be flying nude and charger-free one day :? , there will be bombs going off randomly in the 90-99% of cargo freight that commercial airliners take on without screening.

There is no making a plane 100% safe. It's ludicrous to even suggest that it's possible.

You really think you can stop that? Get real. There is no way you can stop them if they really want to do it.

But turning around and arresting 12 innocent people because they look suspicious, were playing with a cellphone and opened their seat belt before the sign was switched of has nothing to do with stopping terrorists. I would call it paranoia.

Just flew back from SFO to JFK and the national guard were very present in both airports. A couple got on the airtran with me in San Francisco, wasn't the most comfortable feeling having them standing a few feet away from me with their trigger finger ready on super long automatic rifles. Afraid to chew gum the wrong way else be seen as a terrorist these days.

The story is pretty vague. For example, I think it is against the rules to make cell phone calls on a plane, but maybe they were just playing cell phone games or some other activity. Maybe a group of friends or family kept all their cell phones in a single bag, and passed them out because they were bored. Maybe one of them got up because he had to use the bathroom really bad? Maybe they aren't explaining the details so that people don't see how absurd it is?

Innocent?
They are already guilty of:
1. Being Asians.
2. Scaring air marshals.
3. Using mobile phone on the board of aircaft - banned by civililian airlines.
4. Failing to use seat belts when provided.

Give me a human - paragraph can always be found or written.
If one is talking that he is innocent, it is already evidence of guilt.

Paranoia?
Yes we have plenty of it everywhere.
Examples/evidence:
1. Rampant proliferation of WMD on entire planet.
2. Pedophiles, drug dealers or combination of both on the doorstep of every school.
3. Phenomenon called by some "Safety Nazizm".
4. "Borrow yourself rich" concept.
5. General spread of psychoanalitics, psychologists and other psycho-quackery doctors and their services in our society.
6. War on terror... etc, etc.

You can say the terrorists are winning, but I see it differently. It's the govenrments that are winning. A fearful population is a controllable population, and that's what this terrorism has given the governments.

Maybe you should reverse that argument. If Americans are so afraid to be blown up maybe they shouldn't fly instead of making flying difficult for the rest of the world.

You can still use your phone before the plane leaves the gate. My plane was held for half an hour from heavy runway traffic so the flight attendent even let me use the restroom while it was taxiing for take off. Good thing there weren't any air marshalls on board or I might've ended up in Gitmo. :-D

I agree, and I don't. I wish planes had never been invented personally.
