I remember a time where people smoked on planes, had loud parties with lots of alcohol and there were not much security checks at the airports. You could ask the flight crew to go into the cockpit and sit on the jump seat during the landing. (I remember a impressive landing of a 747 on the old Hong Kong airport me sitting in the cockpit on the jump seat, joking around with the captain)

Now the plane will turn around and people get arrested because they are playing with mobile phones or unfasten seat-belts before the sign is switched off.

I would say the terrorists have won the war on terror ...

Oh, they most definitely have won the war on terror.

Then again, considering the US is probably culpable for 9-11, I'd say it's more a victory for the lowest common denominator.

I wonder if we're all looking at this the wrong way.

Maybe this isn't The Terrorists vs The West.

This might be the militant religious (both Christian and Islamist) against the secular. Christain fundamentalists and Islamic fundamentalists seem to be winning.

Its not like a secular state would willing plunge itself towards Armeggedon, no?
