Faith means trusting in the faithfulness of God, thus if you do not believe God is real and God is good you cannot have faith that saves.
I am not sure how you can describe the Christian god as good. The Old Testament is packed full of the vengeance of the god of Israel- and the many cities which god supposedly ordered put to the sword is exhibit number one. How could anyone label as good a god who orders women, children, and old people put to the sword by the tens and even hundreds of thousands??
However, I have faith.
I have faith that the creator of the universe would not go around ordering human blood sacrifices.
I have faith that such a creator would have a thousand ways in which to lead his children to knowledge other than to threaten them with hell and antichrists etc.
I have faith that the creator gave humans a brain in order to think and question- not blindly accept the fantastic hallucinations of demented priests as is found in Revelations.
I have faith that the creator would not expect me to accept such fantastic inventions as devils, demons, angels, virgin births, resurrections, torturous hells etc when I have neither seen these things nor have I seen a single verifiable fact that supports the existence of these claims.
And the analogy is made between a human father and the Christian god as a father.....let me ask you this........
Would even the most evil human father condemn one of his children to an eternity of torment just because that child did not immediately accept his fathers viewpoint?
What you've just done is committed one of the oldest sins in the world - idolatry. You've created a god to suit yourself.
In order to understand God's Justice, you have to understand the problem with this world. We are seperated and sinful, and under God's Wrath. God is Holy and Just therefore He must punish sin, but He is also very patient and loving in that He's made a way back to Him through the sacrafice of Jesus Christ.
Concentrating too much on one particular characteristic of God, such as love, gives an unbalanced view. Sin is very serious and should be taken seriously but we can also rest assured that God loves us by what Christ did for us.
