Ayoob...I'm female, just letting you know, lol! Don't know where to begin, I'm looking into those links and everything, but its taking a slow pace at sinking cos its scary and theres so much of it. I've checked out a few of those other links too and read the first page of the Peak Oil Issues introduction. Thanks for that link too, helped me understand quite a bit. Will continue reading up on those links.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', '.')..Remember when the longshoremen went on strike recently? What could be the possible effects of unrest in Long Beach, CA? Who currently lives in Long Beach, CA?

I do. The ships were backed up damned near to Catalina Island. It was unbelievable.

Hey guys!

Unread postby Weatherman25 » Wed 02 Aug 2006, 16:22:13

Hey guys, I'm a newbie here, and as my name suggests, I am interested in the weather. I'm 14 years old and from Southeast Lower Michigan, and I would like to be a weatherman when I grow up. My other interests are TV shows and sports. I found this forum last year by Googling "Peak Oil" in the aftermath of Katrina. I read a lot of stuff related to Peak Oil but forgot about this site until yesterday when T.S. Chris formed and there was talk about it becoming the next big Gulf storm that would send oil prices on the way up. So I registered and I hope to see you guys around the board.

Thanks. :-D I sort of have mixed feelings about living in SE Michigan. We do have the largest freshwater supply in the world, but most of our jobs are related to the auto industry.

Well, talk the Big 3 ( which aren't near as big anymore ) into building decent cars which people want to buy, get amazing fuel mileage, are made efficiently and quickly and become the pride of the automotive world!

Well....uummm....considering their track record...you better move....quickly.

I plan on moving soon after college (if peak hasn't hit yet, which is doubtful), you can be a weatherman almost anywhere.

Yes, but can you be a weatherman while fending off the poverty stricken hordes of unemployed with an AR15 while only eating MRE's for weeks on end? THATS the tricky part...

Weatherman25,

So you’re a Troll as opposed to being a Upper? (that’s a joke only people with Midwest roots understand , it's not an insult!). If your reading this forum at your age, your smarter than the average bear. I stupidly only thought about cars and girls (baseball sometimes) when I was 14. But I will say I did like science too like you , Astronomy and Weather when I was in school. Read (read everything by Carl Sagan you can get your hands on!, (notice my quote!) and Learn! I look forward to reading your posts!

Ignore this guy! Your actually in one of the better places to be in according to Jim Kunstler (who I agree with), probably better than him! Your interest in Science will benefit you. You’ll have a better understanding of the scientific method than most people who lack it even today. Always use it!

It used to be a boring job, but with global warming, it may become absolutely fascinating.

lol, I can't see how people can deny global warming as most of the U.S. is going through a record breaking heat wave (we here in MI hit 95-100 degrees three days in a row!).

FNG.

Unread postby Praetorian » Thu 03 Aug 2006, 23:39:12

Hello all.

Finally decided to stop lurking and start posting. Los Angeles, Vegas, occasionally overseas and North Texas are my current A.O.'s. You history nerds will be able to figure out what it is that I do for a living.

I'm new to this whole posting on the internet deal so be gentle. Or if that isn't your bag, don't be gentle.

Help please! Why does an oil exporting nation import oil?

Unread postby tealeau » Wed 16 Aug 2006, 22:37:30

Could someone please break this down for me or at least link me to some info.

Probably a silly question for most, but any info would be appreciated.

Location location location. It matters not only how much oil you produce, but where you produce it as well. Sometimes its cheaper to import from somewhere else, rather than ship the oil across your territory overland.
