It Means Nothing to Me.

The list of words or terms whose meaning has been destroyed by overuse and misuse has, for me, now grown to include the following words:

1) Sustainability.
2) Fascist.
3) Cool.
4) Liveability.
5) Energy efficient.

I will ignore anything written here or anywhere else using them from now on. A few weeks ago I said this about the word 'sustainability' but I now realize there is quite a list. If anyone can think of others please add to this list so the rest of us can quit wasting everyone's time using because they no longer have any meaning.

How about:

1)Democracy
2)Terrorism
3)War crime
4)International law
5)United Nations
6)Human rights
7)Sovereignty
8)Freedom
9)Right to privacy
10)Free speech
11)Independent media

I can write much more, but I'm getting nausea, so I'll stop at that.

I think "energy efficient" still means something. Especially when accompanied by some figures.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Doly', 'I') think "energy efficient" still means something. Especially when accompanied by some figures.

True. Your country is a good example of that. I've watched several documentaries in Television Espanola (TVE) explaining the excellent programs you have in place. Spain is becoming a better place by the day, and my guess is that will become more and more developed in the future, in all respects. Your president is one of the few decent ones left, ETA might finally be under control, your promotion of tourism is very effective, and the list goes on...I must say that I like your country quite a bit; the "Madre Patria" as they call you in LatinAmerica.

Just curious. With especially all those words on your ignore list — what exactly are you doing here on this forum?

Ignoring every single post in any thread?

That's cool.
Be a thought fascist, if you must, and ignore our desire for improved sustainability and liveability through more energy efficient lifestyles.

Lighthouse,

You silly rabbit... I'm now doing what's called 'venting'. These terms and words, and many of those added by Miki and others, are overused and improperly used to the point where they have lost much of their meaning.

For example, take the term 'energy efficient' when used to describe the air conditioner installed in our temperate-climate house and in our previous houses. They are completely unnecessary and we've only used them to be sure they work at the time of purchase or sale. They are 'energy wasters' yet are called 'energy efficient'.

Oh, and one more from recent news is 'democracy' to describe the situation in Iraq... heh. That's another favorite I thank Miki for adding.

Another in the long list of examples is a recent article in the Orgonian about someone who built a $700,000 'energy efficient' second home in the mountains... like a another house was needed... all that 'energy efficient' energy wasted in construction, heating and driving to this second home he'll use a few weeks a year. But it's touted in a big article as 'energy efficient'.

It's maddening, I tell ya!
