Bill That Could Detain U.S. Citizens Indefinitely

Ok, this could lend some credibility to all those detention camp rumors we've heard whispered about...
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'U').S. citizens suspected of terror ties might be detained indefinitely and barred from access to civilian courts under legislation proposed by the Bush administration, say legal experts reviewing an early version of the bill.

A 32-page draft measure is intended to authorize the Pentagon's tribunal system, established shortly after the 2001 terrorist attacks to detain and prosecute detainees captured in the war on terror. The tribunal system was thrown out last month by the Supreme Court...

According to the draft, the military would be allowed to detain all "enemy combatants" until hostilities cease. The bill defines enemy combatants as anyone "engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners who has committed an act that violates the law of war and this statute."

Legal experts said Friday that such language is dangerously broad and could authorize the military to detain indefinitely U.S. citizens who had only tenuous ties to terror networks like al Qaeda.

The problem with all this neocon fascist legislation is that it is so extreme that it goes to the Supreme Court and after being shot down; the Feds end up with less authority than they had before the bill. For about the last 100 years, the Federal government has been pushing it's jurisdiction beyond its borders. As long as it isn't extreme, it generally doesn't come before the Supreme Court or if it does, the Justice’s rule in a very restrained manor, so as not to interfere in legitimate government business. But when the Feds go too far, they force the Supreme Court into hatchet mode, forcing them to be specific and succinct, which generally has far reaching impacts on federal jurisdiction.

So if you act against this law and try to have it repealed, you can be held. If you violate the "law of war" (what the hell is that supposed to mean???) you can be held without rights indefinitely. I am really glad I am not an American citizen.

A rumor is a piece of unverified information. Unfortunately, the detention camps are real to the point where addresses to them can be given, therefore, not considered a rumor but fact.
