WHAT BESIDES OIL?

Unread postby grabby » Fri 28 Jul 2006, 12:50:35

Wow.
Everyone is talking and posting and governments are meeting and flying and voitng and nothing is getting done.

TOO MANY SPECIAL INTERESTS fighting between themselves.

now they have a process to crack ammonia to make hydrogen

Will this foolishness never stop?

Cmon, this is what needs to be done
PROPANE should be used for vehicles.
nuff said good alternate for now.
CITIES and POWERPLANTS should immediately stop burning natural gas for heat and institute coal gas.

when we get more coal gas and methanol start adding the methanol to gasoline along with ethanol
(It wont make any difference but hey if your going to do something do a l;ittle something that works.

our only hope of squeeking by is COAL
and COAL GAS
that is what Germany ran on during world warII

everything else is a joke. for making a difference.

we ould actually ramp up coal gas to unlimited production
this cannot be done with ethanol.
or nuclear.

but hey, the hydrogen people and the windmill people and the solar people will fight for the bucks and again
nothing will be done

Chiners is much more efficient , they have thre or four cousins running the whole country and they can pick what works instead of what their lobiests tell them

they are going gangbusters on coal conversion and coal gas to make power

this WAS our only hope
in 2006 it is really too late for this, so I dont even know why I type this.
I think Ill go for a walk, while the sky is still blue
have a nice weekend.

Only after total collapse. Until then we will see an ever escalating frenzy to maintain the cheap energy paradigm. You'll see foolishness that will make the current crop seem sane by comparison.

Smartest suggestion anyone has made in some time. I think I may do the same.

Time grows short.

And thats why I prefer weeding the garden or working on the addition to walks. The time to act has long since past, It's now time to do what I can for the family and hope not to be under the crash.

Duhhhh....Germany lost the war...right? And didn't they go ballistic trying to hook the North African oil fields.

Incidentally, son of Nazi Germany, apartheid South Africa didn't get too far with making their cosy little state world disapproval proof with oil self sufficiency...for what.....the 50 year head start the Brits gave them post ww11.....(SASOL is a weeny bugger and wasteful at that).

I should know, I was raised in South Africa and am a child of the Volk. I reckon China boom is the early euphoria of post Maoist excess.....wait till the commodities markets start reporting empty storerooms.

If you want to see a real, fundamental difference in the way we are forced to live, then yes ramp up that coal production. It's the worst producer of carbon of the 'big three,' and countries like China and the United States are notoriously lenient to the industry. When power becomes scarce, we're all too likely to become more lenient still. If there's one course of action that could tip an already-overstressed climate over the edge, that would be it. It's the single thing I fear most about peak oil.

We will be forced to think in the truly long term if we're going to make it. Ramping up the poisoning of our life support system won't cut it.
Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent in any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive...

Simple living and high thinking. People lived without it for thousands of years, and have only had it for a hundred or so.

But our population has increased since then..or am I getting the wrong end of the stick??

I'm new to this forum and unfamiliar with many of the issues discussed (I have been browsing over it though), so forgive me if I'm just repeating a load of stuff everyone here already knows, or simply rambling rubbish, lol.

Anyway, one major issue surrounding finding alternative energy sources is the whole 'petrodollar' issue, so transactions for oil are actually keeping the US economy stable, which means the US economy would collapse if alternative sources of energy not dependent on the dollar for their transactions were introduced...I'm probably sounding mega-dumb here...how would we go about that?

That depends.

Are you a doomer? In that case you're correct things are screwed and there are no solutions that don't crash everything else.

Are you an optimist? In that case Everything will balance out and the replacements will put so many people to work producing them that the economy is saved.

Are you on crack? In that case Nothing to see here the system works just fine and always will work fine. Move along now.
