Andrea Yates Not Guilty

I don't know what to think of this. I have read death penalty cases from Texas where they sent folks to death row on little or no evidence, but to let this one go is just amazing.

We should start a pool on when she gets out of the nut house. Less than 3 years is my bet.

"Let it go"?

The woman was found to be insane.

People who are mentally ill are not held to the same level of culpability as people who are not.

It is the same as how we don't hold children to the same level of culpability as adults when they commit crimes.

Obviously the court found Yates' degree of psychosis did not justify death as punishment.

I've worked at the Skyview Unit in Rusk, TX where Yates' currently lives. Trust me, it's not a nice place and living there for the next few decades will not be an enjoyable experience for her.

Tommy we execute crazy people all the time in this country. Only recently did we stop executing people with IQ's under 80.

In some states children as young as 8 can be tried as adults in certain cases.

I can't help but wonder if she had been black and not so christian would the jury have voted the same way.

True, but much better tham death row in Huntsville(or where Texas keeps females on death row)and we don't know how much time she will be spending in Rusk.

Tommy I am not arguing she isn't nuts. I think just about anyone who takes anothers life in cold blood is nuts. I just think that the jury felt sorry for the poor white christian and decide to give her a pass.
