In a topic of mine in HOF it was brought to my attention that my playing fast and loose with PO, GW, and the downfall of Civilization in general is not right. Futhermore, It was brought to my attention that I should treat these topics with the utmost respect and humility. So, anyway is it necessary to treat these topics as untouchable golden calves??

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. IF a person was going for a serious answer, then I suppose it does bother me if you waste their time. But if your just posting something that disagree's with peak oil or makes fun of the end of this culture, hey, your hardly alone in that regard.

All I care about is, are you making it uncomfortable for people to be able to discuss here by attacking them personally. If your not doing that, dispute and otherwise disagree away. Kinda what the point of debate is isn't it?

Doesn't bother me at all. It's just one of many ways to put some psychological distance between oneself and the grim ugly reality. Pretty soon it looks like there's going to be a hell of a situation down in Mexico, riots, death and panic when they lose the oil revenues that keep that country going. Some times it's just too much and scares the hell out of me.

I think jabs at the sacred cow, any sacred cow, are absolutely necessary.

If you don't question the path you are on, no matter how rightious/educated you feel, what is the freaking point?

In my experience, ideologues and zealots are generally humorless.

They are not looking for answers. They are looking to proselytize and indoctrinate.

It's quite remarkable, I've found some of the touchiest subjects are cultural observations rather than politics, economics or even religion.

Far better to explore with reductio ad absurdum than kill people over their differences.

Most assuredly not! If one doesn't have a sense of humor than what good are they?

Besides, this person in the HOF is a rather rare species these days: the drunken dispirited marxist; a mouse of sorts whose sole purpose in life is to provide entertainment for us cats. I've encountered them before at the gym and at city council meetings. I even teamed up with one to stop a proposed housing development in a rare plant community once; talk about sanctimony and negative vibes! They'll harsh the mellowest of mellows if one lets them. The best way to throroughly piss them off is to appear to be enjoying life.

Have at 'em kitties!

Glad to see I haven't earned the ire of the populace. I didn't feel like running from a mob with pitchforks and torches.

Heck no, nothing is sacred.

But DO try to be factually correct.

Ya gotta laugh to keep from cryin'.

You have to, or you'll go crazy thinking about all this stuff.

(BTW, keep in mind that the poster you're talking about was very serious about suicide a while back. Depression is no fun. It tends to make it difficult to get a joke.)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'B')ut DO try to be factually correct.

If you can't make it factually correct then at least make it funny.
