Whale Rider

My youngest girl, Rosie, wanted me to watch this movie. The last time she recommended a movie to me to watch it was Second Hand Lion with Robert Duvall. I loved that one. This one is about a Maori girl fighting against the traditional ascendance of males over females in traditional New Zealand. I love Rosie. She's a strong girl. I wouldn't want it any other way. What is needed is an evolution in thought, somehow, someway, but I don't what it is. I think doly is on to it somehow. She doesn't identify with feminists, but she sticks up for herself.

Yeah. I'd give it one and a half out of four stars. Good theme, but less than gripping plot.

Well, I haven't seen the whole thing. Did you see Second Hand Lion? That was a five star flick.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'I') think doly is on to it somehow. She doesn't identify with feminists, but she sticks up for herself.

If you want a really different take on feminism, check out Camille Paglia's Sexual Personae. I got through the first chapter and had to put it down for a while. My head's still swimming. I'm not sure if she is right on or a total nutcase, but she definitely has a unique take on things. Within the first couple of pages she manages to piss all over all three waves of feminists as well as the anti-feminists. The one quote of hers that I love is "feminism is the radical belief that women are human beings."

It's got Robert Duvall and Michael Cain as a couple of old curmudgeons who raise a little boy. When the salesmen come by the spread, they shoot shotguns at them to run them off. They have a fortune buried in their property, etc. It's a charming movie. You should watch it, you'd like it.

 sounds like. One of these days I'm going to make a sign: "Caution: Trespassers will be shot, salesmen will be killed, missionaries will be boiled alive and eaten. Proceed at your own risk."
